It's the first day of Spring!!!!

It's Spring! It's Spring! It's.... still snowing?

Here in Michigan, the calendar might say that it's the first day of Spring. But the view out of the window is much more bleak.

I don't know about you, but I've had the worst case of Spring fever this year. I'm burning up with the desire to see my tulips shoot up from the earth and bloom. I'm sick with wanting blue skies and puffy white clouds. I yearn for warm evenings that invite walks around the neighborhood after dinner. I want to smell the grass after it's been cut and the dirt as I plant my garden.

Of course, I'll be halfway through Spring and looking forward to summer's delights. Ice cream cones. Grilling outside. Sitting on our covered porch in the evenings with the crickets and katydids providing the soundtrack.

And then by the end of the July, I'll be wishing for turning leaves. Cooler nights. And trick or treaters begging for candy.

November brings a longing for the first snow. For sweaters and hot chocolate. For the tinkle of bells and songs of carolers.

SIGH.

For now, I'll stick to wishing for daffodils. Happy Spring!

What's your favorite part of Spring? What do you look forward to most?

  1. Actually, now is perfect in Arizona. We have some puffy white clouds and the weather is wonderful. I sit outside in the evening and read or grade papers. In a few months though, I will pay for this early joy. It will be 115.

    1. Wow, I think I'll stick with my temps in the 20s for now and appreciate the 80s when they come. LOL

  2. Syndi, I'm in AZ too, but it's not quite as warm here as where Pam is. It's still nippy in the morning and evening. I wear ear muffs on my morning walk---but that's me. I'm always cold.
Love your pictures of the struggling spring flowers. I buy pots of daffodils and tulips to have inside just before spring arrives. They don't last and if I plant them outside javelina come along, dig up and eat the bulbs. They love munchy crunchy bulbs. Have a beautiful spring day.

    1. Roz, these are pictures of my flowers last year. Right now, they are still "sleeping" but I check every day just in case they break through the dirt LOL.

Daffodils and tulips are some of my favorite flowers. If my bleeding heart blooms again this year, I'll have to post pictures of it too.

  3. Hi Syndi,
I'm with you completely:) In Alberta it is still freezing and I'm longing for my strappy high heels and capris but as soon as August hits, I start gazing longingly at the Fall boots in the shoe store windows, wanting Fall to hurry up.
Thanks for the reminder of this-maybe I'll appreciate my boots today knowing how much I'll be missing them in August:)

    1. Jen, you're speaking my language! I'm trying to learn to appreciate the moment and not look too much into the future. It's been a struggle, but I'm learning..... slowly.... LOL

  4. Syndi! Good morning! I'm in Oregon where we don't get your terrible weather, but it rains - and rains, and rains. On my morning walks with Cheyenne (the dog) I'm starting to see crocus, daffodils, and farther up the hill where they have sunlight longer, someone's pale pink azaleas are open! I love Spring particularly because my husband brought it! Today is his 80th birthday!

  5. Hi Syndi! I'm in upstate NY and I shoveled almost a foot of snow off my driveway yesterday because my husband is in AZ on a trip and I'm such a dunce at mechanical stuff that I couldn't figure out how to use the snow blower- hopefully I'll be out of traction in time for summer. Lol. My favorite spring thing is the return of the birds - I love to watch and listen. I never get tired of it and could sit on my porch all day long with my lap top and iced tea :)

    1. Karen, oh no! It's amazing how much of a workout you can get shoveling snow. Have done that a couple of times this winter LOL.

I love hearing the birds again too. They make a great soundtrack in the morning and evening :)
