Daydreaming and HGTV by Cheryl Harper

I'm working on the final book in my Lucky Numbers series and it makes me wish for a lottery win of my own. My house:
-Clean, folded laundry stacked on the dining table because I have no laundry room and no will to put away laundry. Ever.
-Groceries stacked on the counters from earlier today because...I completely lack the will to go on after a trip to the grocery store. All the fridge and freezer items are stored. The rest? Maybe tomorrow.

What I am saying is that there's a lot of room for improvement. If I hit the lottery, I would live large. I don't know if I'd renovate or look for a nice, up-to-date spot with a view of water, but it's nice to daydream about small changes that would make a world of difference.

This is where HGTV comes in. I know who I'd lure to the country with all my bucks to make my place pop. Here's my short list. Let me know who your dream designers would be!

In the top spot: Chip and Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper.
Since I don't live near Waco, this might take some effort, but every house Jo does makes me think I could relax there. Right now, I want that! And adding three more rooms on this house could be awesome. I already have plenty of farmhouse. She could add the style.

Next up, YES> THE PROPERTY BROTHERS. I have a long list of favorite Canadians. They hold the top spot for designers. (Hey, Canadians...opinions on Mr. Drew Scott and Mr. Jonathan Scott? Also, good job on all the design shows.). This would only work if I didn't have to speak directly to them. Because there might be nervous giggling. I don't know. It's hard to say. (I think we all know the answer.)
And last on the list is Hilary from Love It or List It. Also, the expression on her face as she beheld my small abode for the first time would be classic. I'd definitely want David to come along because I dig his snark. What can I say? I do love some snark.

What do you guys think? Ever daydream about home makeovers and celebrity designers? PLEASE SAY YES.

  2. I'd have to say Chip and Joanna Gaines. As much as I love watching the Property Brothers, Jonathan's decorating tastes are just too modern for me. I think Joanna could do a better job of finding things that I like.

I daydream about buying a house and fixing it up the way I like it. CONSTANTLY! But that might have something to do with the fact that I'm currently living with relatives in a much-too-small house, and it's almost impossible to find a decent job around here so I can move out. Unless of course you work in the oil field. Which I don't.

    1. Oh, Heidi, I'm this close to sharing your living situation and have my fingers crossed something good opens up soon. I agree with you on Jo. I think I could breathe in a space she designed.

  3. I never get to see Chip & Joanna Gaines because the keeper-of-the-remote doesn't watch it, but occasionally I turn on the office TV to lust over the Property Brothers. I don't pay that much attention to the show--the house buyers drive me crazy; I just watch Drew and Jonathan. Thinking I need to watch Chip & Joanna--there's probably a reason Duane never turns them on when I'm in the house...

    1. DEAR KEEPER OF THE REMOTE, YOU ARE MISSING OUT. MORE HGTV.
You can show him this note if you think it will help. :)

  4. I love to renovate. In fact, after I graduated from university, I purchased a number of houses (not all at the same time!) to do just that and then sold them. My favorite project was a house in the "The Beaches" area of Toronto. Great renovation opportunity in a vibrant neighbourhood. Oddly, I don't watch reno shows, but going by the pictures, I think Chip and Joanna would be fun to work with!

Good luck with that lottery winning, Cheryl, and best wishes for your next book.

    1. Flipping houses look like it would be fun, but making so many decisions all at once would probably send me into hibernation!

  5. I live in an old American Four-Square that we decorated in the Victorian style when that was popular. (How long ago was that?!) Life has changed and we now have a sort of Astoria- thrift-shop style which is still kind of cute and serviceable, but the wallpaper is still a tailored duck-green with a beige and burgundy small pattern in it and golden oak woodwork. My oldest son is in construction, my granddaughter's significant other is a plumber, and our dear friend is an electrician. They all promise that when they can manage time together, they'll update us. I used to love the guy that did makeovers for returning veterans and other deserving people. (His name escapes me this morning. Not enough tea, yet.) Know where you're coming from Cheryl. What would we be without our dreams?

    1. My style has no name! Someday maybe I'll renovate and half a minute later, be out of style again.

  6. I love all your picks, Cheryl! I read an article the other day which said, "We need more Joanna Gaines and less Kardashian." Funny, but maybe not to Kardashian fans, but Joanna is so natural. Right now I'm just thinking about organizing my closet. One horrible task at a time.

    1. Oooh, closets. I decided this tiny house (not the kind that's so trendy now but an actual small house) had to be streamlined and made it through weeding one closet. Need more time!

  7. I think I've only seen one episode (which was very good) of Fixer Upper so I can't speak on them, but I love Property Brothers and Love it or List it. Hillary would be ultra-awesome if she had all of the necessary funds to do a full renovation for once. Unexpected problems always seem to consume her budget.
As for me....well, since our house was built only 12 years ago it's fairly new and we were able to put what we wanted into it for the most part, but I wouldn't mind a bedroom and entertainment room makeover done by professionals like the ones you've mentioned above. THAT would be incredible.
I laughed at what you said about grocery shopping. Having to put it all away is the tough part. ( :

    1. I think I could always dream up one more project, Laurie. I like making changes, but it would be so awesome to hand Hilary a big check and stand back to watch her work.
