Welcome to Romantic Times by Melinda Curtis

Romance writers can be found at many events, but are most likely to attend one or both of the biggest events - the Romance Writers of America Conference and/or The Romantic Times Convention, better known as RT.

RWA's annual event is specifically designed for writers. It offers workshops on writing craft, marketing, professional development, and so on. They hold many signings, but many attendees to those signings are writers. RT is slightly different, as it welcomes both readers and writers to its event, and promotes it as such.

I've always been more of a RWA girl, myself. But this year, I'm going to both events. Why? I've been asking myself that for about a week now as I pack.

I do know the answer. I decided two years ago to spread my wings, branch out, meet more people in the industry and network. Now's the time, I told myself. The kids are away in college. I'm dual-pathing publication - both indie and in the traditionally published world. Why not step out of my comfort zone?

So...this RT Virgin is going to Atlanta on Tuesday. Have you ever gone? Either as a reader or a writer? What advice would you give?

And if you're going to be in Atlanta this week, look for me. I welcome a friendly face. Here's my schedule.

Melinda Curtis is an award-winning USA Today Bestseller who writes sweet romance for Harlequin Heartwarming, sweet romantic comedy and sexy traditional contemporary romances. Her latest releases are Love, Special Delivery (a Harmony Valley romance), A Kiss is Just a Kiss (part of RT's Magnolias & Moonshine promotion), and Frankly, my dear...Creating Unforgettable Characters (now available in print!).

  4. I've never been to a RT conference but you've tweaked my curiosity! Maybe next year. I have great memories of RWA conferences, meeting other writers and editors. I'm not going this year, but New York in 2018 (I think?) sounds pretty awesome. Have a great time Melinda!
