Baby in the House by T.R. McClure

The third in the Harlequin Heartwarming Home to Bear Meadows series, Deal of a Lifetime, debuts September 1. You may have guessed from the heading a baby shows up somewhere in the story. However, the baby doesn't belong to the heroine. Nor does the baby belong to the hero. I'll stop there so I don't spoil the surprise. Nevertheless, as many of us already know, when a baby shows up...things change. πŸ‘ΆπŸ‘Ά

Remember the 1987 movie Baby Boom starring Diane Keaton? She's a successful working woman who suddenly finds herself guardian to a baby. As smart and competent as she is, she doesn't have the slightest idea how to handle this new development in her life. I can relate to that. I read every baby book I could find before the twins were born. 🍼

Also in 1987, Three Men and a Baby, starring...sigh...Tom Selleck. How cute were those three guys trying to figure out how to diaper a baby? Personally, I had to read the directions on the back of the diaper box the fist time I tried. πŸ₯

Some families seem surrounded by babies. A new baby comes along every couple years and are passed from person to person like hors d'oeuvres. No big deal. Others, like mine, have their babies and are done! Toddlers, teenagers, adults. We go through each stage about the same time. So after a while, you kind of forget how to handle a baby. πŸ˜•

Maybe this is a good time to tell you I just found out I'm going to be a grandmother. In September! Yes, I'm excited. But I'm also a little nervous. All the books I read on child care are thirty years old. Baby on the belly? Baby on the back? Blanket? No blanket? And they're so tiny. I'm sure holding my granddaughter for the first time will be a memorable experience. ❤

So wish me luck.

  4. Perfect timing - the birth of a grandchild (I'm very envious!) and a new release. Plus the 'baby' element in your new book. I don't think you could have planned all that, T.R. Or did you? LOL. Happy to share September with you and looking forward to "Deal of a Lifetime"! Congratulations - lots of celebrating ahead.

  5. I loved both Baby Boom and Three Men and a Baby. I think Baby Boom was my favorite because I bought into the romance. I didn't buy into the romance on Three Men and a Baby, mostly because I didn't buy into a woman leaving her baby that way LOL
    Congrats on becoming a grandmother.

  7. Congratulations! I come from one of those families where it seems like someone is always having a baby. It's so fun! The thing that gets me is how baby care changes through the years according to the "experts" - let baby sleep on her back, don't let baby sleep on her back, they can't have milk, they can have milk, bathe them every day, don't them too much, etc. And we cold do an entire blog post on how to feed them! It's a miracle so many of us have survived to adulthood when moms from my mom's generation just bee-bopped along doing whatever "felt" right, Lol.

    1. Exactly! Heaven forbid reading an out-of-date child care manual. Thanks, Carol.

  12. Congratulations!! I come from a small family myself. My mom had two, I had one, my only sister had one. Since my sister's son is now 30, and my daughter, 27, I'm long out of practice too with baby related things. But....I bet once your granddaughter's here, you'll catch on again real fast.

    1. I certainly hope so. And now we can google everything! Wonder what google would say to "what do I do when the baby won't stop crying?"?

  13. Congratulations! Both my kids were born in September, so I'm partial to September birthdays. I'm sure the baby care how-tos will come right back. I'd say it's like riding a bike, but I tried to do that not long ago and it wasn't as easy as I remembered. Hopefully babies will be. And that baby smell. Mmmm.

  14. Congratulations! I have to tell you, being a grandma is the BEST!!! I was a little nervous with my granddaughter at first, but it's just like riding a bicycle and if you handled twins, you can handle anything!!!!

  15. Sorry I'm late to the party, but congrats!!!! I love babies and BABY BOOM is one of my favorite movies!! I've watched it so many times it's not funny. There's just something about how the baby teaches her how to prioritize and find balance in her life...and of course the quaint town and old house she moves to...and the romance! Love it. Now I can't wait to read your story!
