As I’m writing this, I’m also almost finished editing Amy
Vastine’s January 2020 Harlequin Heartwarming book, A BRIDESMAID TO REMEMBER.
I’m not going to spoil it, but the opening wedding scene is fantastic! I know
readers are going to love this book.
The story, plus a few other things, got me thinking about
weddings. In Toronto news this week, a bridal shop suddenly closed its doors.
Apparently the owner hasn’t paid her rent and the landlord locked up the
store—along with all the wedding gowns! My heart sank when I saw all the
prospective brides lined up outside, hoping their dresses were in the store and
they could pick them up.
I’ve been watching a lot of FRIENDS reruns lately, and the
wedding episode where Ross says Rachel’s name instead of his bride’s during the
ceremony is a great scene. I have to admit I really like that wedding episode
because that’s where Chandler and Monica begin their romance, but the wedding
scene with all the candles is beautiful—until the name mixup, that is!
One of my favorite wedding scenes is in WHEN HARRY MET
SALLY, when Jess and Marie toast to Harry and Sally: “To Harry and Sally, if
Marie or I had found either of them remotely attractive... we would not be here
today.” I crack up every time! Also, “baby fish mouth!” LOL!
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the last two British
royal weddings. Who can resist the glamour, the pomp, the history—and the
gowns!

But who could forget Diana’s wedding day? That dress!
Weddings are a time for hope, joy, love and sometimes drama.
So there are usually some great stories to tell, and I can’t wait for readers
to pick up A BRIDESMAID TO REMEMBER in January 2020. But until then, they have
the August Harlequin Heartwarming books to keep the romance going!

You've named so many iconic scenes, real and imagined. These royal weddings have such power to draw attention and make us think of fairytales, but you're right about the wedding in When Harry Met Sally or the direction Friends introduced with the wedding mishap and the start of a whole new romance. They were fairytales in their own way, too. Thanks. Good to see you in NYC!
ReplyDeleteI remember years ago the furor over Luke and Laura's wedding on a daytime soap opera. Unless I'm mistaken, it was prior to DVR, and people were missing work and school to watch it!
ReplyDeleteI remember waking up before daybreak to watch Diana and Charles’ wedding while we were at the cottage. A bunch of us (all women and a few of our daughters) had a pyjama party with British treats and watched it on a colour tv that someone rented for the occasion. Weddings are magical, royal or not!
ReplyDeleteMy own wedding had a name mixup. The minister called me by my little sister's name. Twice.
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing for Diana and Charles’s wedding. A party with friends. When Luke and Laura got married, I joined friends to watch and I didn’t even watch soaps. One of my favorite tropes is the marriage of convenience.

ReplyDeleteI love weddings. I cry nearly every time I attend one. As for the royals, I melted watching Harry smile and whisper to Meghan at the alter - gah!
