Thanksgiving Greetings by Tara Randel

I have to admit, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. When I was a kid, I loved the chill in the air, the smell of turkey roasting in the kitchen, the excitement as the family headed out to watch the high school football game.

As I got older, football was replaced by watching the Macy’s parade. I loved setting the table for company and waiting for my dad to light a fire as we welcomed guests to our home.

Now, I live in Florida, so the fireplace rarely gets used in November. But the spirit still lives in my home.

I do the cooking now and my mom sets the table. We still watch the parade and definitely enjoy time with the family. And love the leftovers!

In the spirit of the season, please remember to give thanks for all the good things in your life. And as was mentioned in the post by Rula and Catherine, please donate to a food bank or homeless shelter. That is truly a sign of thanks.

What are your favorite Thanksgiving memories? Leave a comment.

I’ll be giving away a copy of Magnolia Bride in preparation for my December release, Honeysuckle Bride, the third book in The Business of Wedding series.  The winner will be announced in the comment section tomorrow.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. I love Thanksgiving, too, but it's a holiday when we tend to depart from tradition (though my husband moans every year we don't have a turkey and I end up roasting one over the weekend). We've had lobster a few times, eaten at a buffet once (didn't like that), and this year we're renting a house and 11 of the 15 of us will spend the time together.

I love your pictures! Good luck with the new release.

  3. Nice decor and I can relate to changing Thanksgiving up because of changes in the family. We used to always go to hubby's parents and it would be so much fun. The cousins would all go on a hike while the mom's fixed the dinner. They cooked, but we cleaned up so that worked out for everyone. smile But all are gone now. Our one cousin travels to spend time with us and we still follow the tradition of hiking on that day. We keep the cooking simple too. Have a great thanksgiving all of you.

  4. All holidays have changed a lot for me since Denny died. I don't like to travel on those busy times of the year and my kids and grands have their own traditions. Thanksgiving and Christmas of late comes down to my sister and me. She lives about a mile away, but doesn't like to cook. I generally decorate still and do a mini version of turkey and all the trimmings. Still like leftovers.
Tara, looking forward to your newest book.

  5. I remember Thanksgiving Day spent with lots of family, the men talking sports and politics while the women cooked. It all smelled and felt wonderful. Today our kids are a distance away, so Ron and I usually go out somewhere with friends, but he loves turkey, so, like Liz, I end up cooking one somewhere around the holiday. My heart overflows with thanks every day - and getting to know all of you is a large part of that. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Tara. And congratulations on your release (sounds like you just got out of jail, but you know what I mean.) Love to all!

  6. Thanksgiving in our family usually means a big meal then games, same as we do for Christmas. I'm not a turkey fan so I usually eat the other fixings. Not sure what I'm eating this year as I'm on a rigid diet. It doesn't matter though because I'll get to see my older brother this year, I haven't seen him for almost a year so it will be great to catch up.

  8. Lookie at all those pumpkins!! Such gorgeous colors. I think my funniest memory is the year I made mashed potatoes in the food processor. Don't ever do that. They turn to glue, LOL. Did I mention I was cooking for 10? Yikes. These days we spend Thanksgiving decorating for Xmas, but the house always smells yummy. Great post, Tara!

  10. Oh!!! First time I get to see the new cover. It's beautiful :)

I love holidays. Thanksgiving is at my sister-in-laws. She cooks enough for an army and is a much better cook than I am. She can make rolls like a restaraunt. I make rolls that taste like rocks with butter

  12. Tara, congrats on your release! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, still! I miss the days when my family gathered at my grandparents', but I love spending time with my family and the friends. We usually head up the street to a friends' house, and then we make our own mini-Thanksgiving, because, like Roz, we love the leftovers! ;-)
