** Once a Marine by Loree Lough: Red Carpet Edition! **

We Talk to Ourselves…a Lot! by Loree Lough and Cerella Sechrist

Readers often ask “If your book became a movie, who do you see in the starring roles?” Well, for a couple of ‘talk to ourselves a lot’ authors like Cerella and me, that’s permission to go wild! And, since Once a Marine releases in a few weeks, we’d like to take y’all on a quick trip to Tinsel Town, where you can step inside the velvet ropes of the red carpet and meet the “stars” in person!

First, we’d like to introduce you to our fictitious guest host, the always personable Charlie Flowers, whose reputation for interviewing stars is unrivaled. Thanks, Charlie, for agreeing to take charge of the microphone for us!

CF: My pleasure, ladies! And without further ado, let’s spend a few minutes with Taylor Kitsch, who earned the male lead in Once a Marine. Taylor, as a native of Canada, was it easy stepping into the role of Coloradan Zach Marshall?

Taylor: Not at all. Denver and Vail are two of my favorite cities, so this was the perfect match. CF: Were there any similarities between this character and, say, that of Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights? Taylor: Not really. Zach was older, wiser, a Marine who’d seen three tours in Afghanistan, while Tim was a high school kid…a savvy kid, but a kid all the same. If they had anything in common, it was a certain stubborn toughness that made them do things that weren’t easy.

CF: What was it like, working with your costar, Bridget Moynahan?

Taylor: Pretty much as you’d expect. She’s gorgeous. Smart. Funny. Personable. If they make a sequel, I’m on board! CF: Speaking of Bridget, here she is. So tell our viewers, Bridget, how the role of Summer Lane was similar to your character as a D.A. on Bluebloods….

Bridget: At first glance, Summer is a completely different kind of woman. When the story opens, we realize she’s been the victim of a brutal attack. It takes a while, but as the plot unfolds, she shows us she’s made of some pretty sturdy stuff.

CF: Thanks to Taylor’s character, Zach?

Bridget: Not entirely. As a martial arts instructor, he’s a conduit, no doubt about that. But Summer needed to dig deep and find the strong woman she’d been before the attack to make everyone realize she was a survivor, not a victim.

CF: Which did you two prefer…filming on the Denver ranch or in Vail?

Taylor and Bridget: Both! Bridget: I’m not a very good skier, but I love Vail. Who wouldn’t? It’s a beautiful town.

Taylor: If I had to choose, I say the ranch. Loved the horseback scenes. Especially when it snowed and I got to play hero to ‘she forgot her hat’ over here.

Bridget: Who said I forgot?

CF: So you two had close relationships with your families in this movie. Did you have a favorite parent?

Taylor: Tom Selleck plays a great dad on Bluebloods, and the same was true for Once a Marine. His character was a little bit Frank Ryan and a little bit Jesse Stone…perfect for a rancher. And what guy would mind having Cheryl Ladd for a mom!

Bridget: Tony Dennison was a great dad, even though he isn’t old enough to be my dad in real life. His character was nothing like the role he plays as Andy Flynn on Major Crimes. As for my “mom?” It was a true joy working with Teri Garr. She was equal parts silly and nurturing. Don’t tell her I said this, but I had a hard time not seeing her as Dustin Hoffman’s goofy girlfriend in Tootsie!

CF: I have it on good authority there will be a sequel, and that you’ll both play small roles in the second installment. Any news about the relationship between Zach and Summer you care to share with our viewers before I let you go?

Taylor: Nope.

Bridget: Well, Charlie, I guess that’s a wrap!

Charlie: She’s right, folks! Tune in next month—Friday the 13th!—when Cerella and Loree will surprise you with proof that the date is anything but unlucky!

  6. Love the cast, too! Patricia will have to fight me for Tom Selleck. I love the notion of a victim of violence coming back into her through a hero who (it sounds like) doesn't really rescue her, but teaches her to fight for herself?? Anyway - sounds great. Anxious to read it.

    2. You're so right, Muriel! Good thing Summer is a scrappy li'l thing, because she really has to fight hard to get back to her pre-attack life!

    1. I loved him in that one, too, Amy! In fact, that show was the first time I'd seen/heard of him. I have a feeling he might just grow into a Tom Selleck kind of guy if he keeps his nose clean (literally and figuratively)!

  11. I will see Taylor as I read the book. He is SO much better than the guy on the cover!

  12. I too love your intro to the characters in your book. Your's is the better choice. The cover model doesn't look like a Marine. I'd take the ranch over Vail any day. Your book sounds like another for my TBR pile.
