Happy October by Tara Randel

Happy October!

Can you believe it’s October? I don’t know about you, but this summer flew by. Of course, multiple deadlines took up most of my time, so that could explain why this year has moved along so quickly.

But October is here and I’m excited. Autumn has always been my favorite season. Maybe it’s the cooler temperatures after a long summer or the lovely shades of yellow, red and orange when the leaves begin to change. The scent of a burning fire always makes me think of football games and Thanksgiving.

Surprisingly enough, the temperatures here in Florida haven’t been beastly! Warm, compared to some parts of the country, but cool enough to open my doors and windows in the early morning. This is certainly a welcome treat.

Now if you’ve been to Florida, you know we don’t get the changing foliage like up north. While I don’t rake leaves, I do miss the color changes. So how do I get my fall fix? I decorate. A LOT. But I enjoy every moment.

Since I love to decorate for the fall season, I’m always looking for new ideas. Tell me, how do you decorate for the season? Do you decorate? And if so, what is your favorite?

  1. In Ontario, Mother Nature does the decorating! The fall colors are already spectacular.

  2. Your decorations look adorable, Tara! One thing we do is buy three hay bales that we stack unevenly. Then we place potted mums on the exposed corners. We also tie dried cornstalks to our lamppost and add a scarecrow in the mix :-)

  3. I don't, though I certainly enjoy other people's. I do, however, eat, drink, and sniff anything that's labeled "pumpkin spice."

  4. Doesn't look much like fall here in southern AZ. In fact still in triple digits. But I love to put out table decorations for every major holiday. Once I finish my pages today I'll get out my pumpkins. Love your photos.

  5. Love your decorations, Tara! I decorate the porch - our house is light blue, so the shades or orange look wonderful on it. I have a sign with a black cat on a broom and it reads, "Free Broom Rides 5 cents." Ridiculous, but it makes me laugh. I have a giant wooden leaf in fall colors that says Welcome and pumpkins and cats that hang around the porch. The cats are gray rather than black, but they seem to fit in. I also collect leaves and dry them in the microwave and spread them around. Want me to send you some? Hopefully, you're wearing a tiara to flaunt your stardom. Congratulations, again!

  6. Although it hasn't felt much like fall, here in Charlotte, the past week, that doesn't stop me from breaking out my fall decorations, Tara. The first day of September is always my decorating day. I have mums, floral arrangements in beautiful colors of red, yellow and orange and porcelain pumpkins. I even have a dancing ghost that sings, "I want candy." :)

  8. I leave the decorating to Mother Nature. Although, I may try my hand at it this year after seeing your decorations and hearing about others here. And YAYAY on the ACRA award for Honeysuckle Bride!

  9. Love your calico pumpkins. This year for the first time ever, I grew pumpkins, and actually have almost a dozen turning orange on the vine. Now I just have to find out how to know when to pick them.

    1. How awesome! I tried a garden but in Florida not much grows! All the sand. Enjoy!

  10. Such lovely pumpkins in your pictures. Our office is decorated for Halloween, so I’ll be living with witches, black cats and pumpkins for the next month.

  11. I LOVE fall decorations. I am all about pumpkins and scarecrows because they can be out all fall long! We go to a pumpkin patch and you can load up your car with as many pumpkins as you want for $60. We split them with my two brothers' families but still end up with over 20 pumpkins that we have to spread around and pile up in our front yard!

  12. I love it! Unfortunately, pumpkins don't last long outside in the heat! We have to decorate with fake pumpkins. Have fun!
