New Year's Resolutions from Editors and Authors

HARLEQUIN HEARTWARMING EDITORS

Adrienne Macintosh’s Editor Resolution
Read more. You’d think I read enough as an editor (and I read a lot!), but for a while I was mostly just reading books for my job. Recently I’ve been reading more books for pleasure, but also to see what’s going on out there in the wider industry. And I remembered how much I love it! So I’m going to read MORE. Of EVERYTHING: more slush, more Harlequin books, more books from our competitors, more for-pleasure books, more magazines, just more. And luckily it’s winter, so who wants to go outside anyway?

Deirdre McCluskey’s Editor Resolution
One thing I’d like to do in the new year is read more widely in the genre. I read so much slush it’s good to refresh the brain with books that really show a romance author hitting the mark. And it’s great to be able to say, this is what we’re looking for.

Victoria Curran’s Editor Resolution
To catch up! I am so far behind on my deadlines, I think I’ve circled myself…twice. Last year was full of change here in the Toronto office and it’s taken me some time to find my groove. Now that I’ve got a handle on all the various publishing programs our team manages, I fully intend to catch up. (Am DREAMING of it, actually.)

Kathryn Lye’s Editor Resolution
It’s to try at least one new thing.  By that I mean attend an event or festival, museum or show, anything really that I haven’t in the past.  Two years ago I promised myself I’d learn to navigate the Toronto Film Festival and I’ve been loving it ever since.  Hopefully, in 2016 I can add another to my list of favourite things to do!

My New Year's resolution is to simplify my life by streamlining routines and being less busy.
Wishing you a wonderful year!
Lee McKenzie

My New Year’s resolution for 2016 is to be more organized and productive. (Stop laughing.) I’ve already bought a daily planner and somewhere just after the first of the year I intend to remove the plastic wrap. Bam! Resolution achieved.
Carol Ross

My resolution is to make the most of every opportunity I'm given and to sit back and enjoy the little moments more
Amy Vastine

Because 2015 was sooo busy, I'm determined in 2016 (at least now and then) to just stop and "smell the roses."
Leigh Riker

My resolution is to achieve more balance in my life.
Karen Rock

Although I replaced resolutions with intentions long ago, then swapped out both with a word for the year, I have decided to journal in 2016. Nothing big and no laws will be broken if I miss, but I want to write a little and place one picture--an undoubtedly bad one I've taken with my phone--in a journal each day.
Liz Flaherty

I'm Catholic and the pope has declared 2016 The Year of Mercy.  My resolution is to be more compassionate and caring, to try to react with kindness in all situations.  (Easier said than done, but that's the plan.)
Muriel Jenson

I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions.  I made up my mind a long time ago to make ‘new day’ resolutions. Every single day I try to embrace the hours before me with awareness and hope.  I watch what I eat.  I find something to be thankful for.  I smell my roses – really bend down and smell them.  I take time for my pets, touch them, talk to them.  I call my mother.  Every day.
Tara Taylor Quinn

I'm resolving in 2016 to notice moments of joy everyday. I am going to try my darnedest to pause and pay attention to those little blessings that pop up throughout the day instead of letting them sail on by.
Dana Mentink

Eat less; Love more
Worry less; Enjoy more
Give thanks to God every day
Pamela Tracy

I've got a couple of resolutions:
1. Start meditating and aim to find the calm.
2. Get to moving at least 4 days a week (get my butt out of the desk chair!)
Anna J. Stewart

I’m “decluttering” my house by following the monthly plans athttp://www.home-storage-solutions-101.com/declutter-calendar-january.html  In just fifteen minutes a day…I will declutter my world!
Amie Denman

My New Year's resolution is: After writing 7 books and a novella since 2013, my goal is to slow down a little. Maybe only two books this year. :-)
Patricia Bradley

I want to be more understanding and less to make quick judgements.
Roz Denny Fox

My hope for 2016 is to slow down and enjoy the opportunities given to me, to focus on being more productive, and to live each day with a smile I can share with others.
Tara Randel.

Happy New Year! Sorry to disappoint, but I’ve never made a New Year’s resolution!
Kate James

To eat healthier.
Melinda Curtis

My resolution is to help others more. I was the recipient of so many prayers, I'll be praying for everyone, every day.
Catherine Lanigan

While I don't make New Year's Resolutions, I do take on big projects for improvement, so I'm going to downsize, declutter, and simplify.
Patricia Forsythe

So, what resolutions are you making?

In closing, since it's a special day, we wanted to give a special shout out to two Heartwarming authors with birthdays the first day of the year. Happy birthday Muriel Jensen and Carol Ross!

Happy 2016 to everyone!

  4. I loved reading everyone's resolutions. Like many, I don't do resolutions, the one word has been successful for me over the years.
LIZ - You should purchase the Happiness Journal. I bought it last year and it was life changing for me. Each day, you write one sentence, more if you like, on something that brought you happiness that day. It's a five year journal, so today, I'll go back to January 1st and I'll be happy to see what made me happy last year too. I love it. Anyone can write one sentence a day, right? Happy New Year! I can't wait to get my hands on more of your books in Walmart and Barnes and Nobles.

    1. Thank you, Jill. I will look for that if I do well this year. For now, I just have a new Word document with an entry (sometimes one sentence) and a picture every day. I started it Christmas Day and we'll see how it goes!

  6. Glad I didn't make weight loss resolutions. I had champagne and birthday cake for breakfast. Forgot to wear my tiara, though. Thanks for the good wishes, Everyone. Happy Day, Carol!
