Happy Birthday, Canada! (And July HW authors)

By Senior Editor Victoria Curran
Next year marks the 150th year since the confederation of Canada, so prepare for a ton of party build-up for July 1, 2017.  And at Harlequin, we’re doing our part and having a little fun with it by launching a search for the next hot #CanadianRomanticHero! (Check out Birgit Davis-Todd’s post on the Harlequin blog to announce the contest:  http://bit.ly/28QAgAM.)

In brainstorming the contest, we were trying to decide who has already made it onto the list for past #CanadianRomanticHero hotties…and I confess we struggled a bit. Although the two Ryans made it, no objections: Gosling and Reynolds. And, of course, there’s our precious modern Dudley Do-Right mountie, Constable Benton Fraser, Paul Gross, from the old TV show “Due South” (look it up, younger peeps, you’ll love it). And Will McCormack from Will and Grace is actually Canadian… Who else???

In a coincidence of timing, one of the requested entries from the Heartwarming Blitz we ran in May is a Toronto author who submitted a Toronto story…about hockey, of course.  What could be more Canadian than a hockey hero, I ask you? Okay, possibly the Mountie tops the goalie as quintessential Canadian hero. Debatable. Anyway, it’ll be a fun search to find out.

So on this July 1 Canada Day, I want to also say happy book birthday to our July Heartwarming authors: Karen Rock, Amy Vastine, Kate James (a good Canadian girl, so she’s off at a barbecue somewhere today, surely!) and Catherine Lanigan. They’ve given our Heartwarming readers quite a diverse selection of stories for their summer reads: Under an Adirondack Sky, The Girl He Used to Love, When I found You and Sophie’s Path. Each are standalone stories but they’re also each tied into miniseries so if you find you love the world the author has created, the good news is you get to revisit it! Aren’t books wonderful?
I’ll try to check in periodically over the course of the day…until my tee-off time at 2:45. However, we are expecting rain, in which case, the game will be off and I’ll be huddled over my computer anyway!
Happy Canada Day, Heartwarming Authors and Readers!

  3. Happy Canada Day! And Happy Book Birthday to the authors. :) I seem to remember an old Harlequin that had a mountie on the cover. There is something about a polite man in uniform. ;)

  8. Sending all Canadians good thoughts for a wonderful weekend. Hope you get your tee time rain free, Victoria. I love hockey, so I look forward to the new story. It actually looks like Tucson may be getting a team---yay us. All of those men look pretty hot. Hard to choose who's best.

  12. Yay, Canada! I love visiting there--Niagara on the Lake is a favorite. One of my sons is crazy about Canada and swears he will move there some day. If I got in my kayak and started paddling across Lake Erie, perhaps I could make it in time for fireworks.
    Congratulations to the July authors!
