Sit Down Sunday

Hi Everyone, Normally this post is called "Sit Down Saturday" but for this one time only, I am calling it "Sit Down Sunday" for obvious reasons. Sorry I'm late. I can only blame technical difficulties, an older computer, and a temperamental wifi. But here goes:

Today we’re celebrating the August release of The Bridesmaid Wore Sneakers by Cynthia Thomason

So, Cynthia, where did you get the idea for this novel?

This novel is the second in my trilogy, The Daughters of Dancing Falls. This is the love story of the middle daughter, Jude, who is very much like my clever and rugged stepdaughter, Lisa. Like Lisa, Jude is an animal lover, a fighter, and a survivor. Unlike my Lisa, Jude's life was complete five years ago when she married the man of her dreams, but he left her to fight for his country and was killed in action. Now she is facing life with her six year old son.

In looking at the cover, if you could add a caption or captions, what would they say?

Probably, "When will it be my turn?" Jude is a bridesmaid in her sister's wedding, and while she is happy for Alexis, she is lonely and would like to love again.

How long did it take you to write?

About four months.

What is your favorite scene?

My favorite scene occurs at the beginning of the novel when Jude meets her opposite, Liam Manning. He asks her to dance at the wedding reception, and she has changed from her wedding shoes to her sneakers. When he asks her if she wasn't taller during the ceremony, she hikes up her skirt and reveals her secret. He challenges her to a game of tennis!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jude of course. I portrayed her the way her mother always described her - as a fighter and a defender of the downtrodden. Sometimes her desire to help others got her into trouble, but that never stopped her from trying again.

Tell us one thing you learned during research.

I did considerable research on charities and foundations, since Jude founded a charity in her deceased husband's name.

What music would match the mood of this novel?

Country western. Anything by Lady Antebellum or Luke Brian. Picture a line dance in a country western bar, and you would see Jude in the middle of it all.

What do you plan to work on next?

I'm looking forward to the release of the third book in the trilogy, Rescued by Mr. Wrong, the story of Carrie, the third daughter. Each sister has her own unique characteristics and approach to life and love, but one thing they have in common is their love for each other.

What are you reading for pleasure right now?

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, set in World War II. It's fabulous. And of course I read the latest Harlequin Heartwarming novels.

  8. I agree the cover is perfect, and I loved the story. Jude is complicated, and yet simple at the same time, and her son is such a great character. Who couldn't love someone who tries so hard to help?
