Autumn Blessings by Tara Randel

As I was putting out my autumn decorations, I took a few minutes to stop and think about what this time of year means to me. I love the changing leaves, watching children run around a pumpkin patch in search of the perfect pumpkin to bring home or their eyes lighting up over a Halloween costume. We don’t carve pumpkins any more, but I still have lots of them scattered around my house.

This time of year reminds me to be thankful for family and good friends. To reflect on the blessings in my life. Sometimes I get so caught up with the hustle and bustle of life, in my case the busy life of an author with deadlines and projects, that I let work become the focus. While I’m grateful to be writing, doing what I love, I have to take a step back from time to time. Take a deep breath and enjoy the fruit of my labor.

The holidays are right around the corner. Soon we’ll be caught up in the holiday hubbub. Now would be a great time to invest in a few precocious moments to take stock in life. It’s a worthwhile endeavor, a grounding, if you will, before we suddenly realize it’s the end of the year and we haven’t taken a breath or slowed down long enough to enjoy the simple things in life.

So, my friends, sit back with a mug of pumpkin flavored coffee. Be still. And remember what life is all about; spending quality time with the people most important to you.

  2. Such a lovely post, Tara. Everyone has something that they can be thankful for each day. Writing one thing down a day has been something I've practiced for a couple of years.

  3. Tara - what a lovely thought so beautifully put. My heart and brain are so full of thanks all the time that it crowds my attention every morning. The coziness of this time of year is fertile ground for focusing on it. Right there at the top of my list is all of you! And my furnace is in and we're warm!

  5. A good reminder to slow down from time to time... instead of just when I get a cold and am forced to! :)

  7. Tara, beautiful pictures and beautiful advice. I love decorating for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Christmas is harder, because it's more work. LOL But slowing down with pumpkin spice latte is good.
