Wild life

Wild life

We live so close to nature. Sparrows fight the swallows above our doors and windows and a raging battle commences every spring.

Behind the hill across from our house is a large badger set.

It intrigued me  so I bought a wild life camera and captured these few images to share with you. I would love to hear about the wild life that lives near you.

  1. Nice pictures. Where I live, I mostly see quail, rabbits, javelinas, and coyotes. My favorites are the quail because they scurry along with their babies following like the whole family is on an important mission.

    1. I've never even heard of a javelina and to see coyotes must be great

  2. We get the odd jack rabbit bounding past. Mostly though, it's deer. They use the greenways in our town like we use streets. And oh, birds. Now that our neighborhood is maturing, finches and warblers are moving in beside the sparrows and swallows.

  3. Love the pictures! I love watching the critters run around the desert. Well, most of the critters. Like Patti, the quail are my favorites. Some I can do without. Currently, I'm sitting on my back porch with a cup of coffee and a BB gun waiting for some of our local critters to show up in the garden they've been reeking havoc on. While the BB's won't kill them, it should sting them enough to make them think twice about using my garden as their smorgasbord.

    1. You're too funny, LeAnne. I can just picture you doing that. Ha ha. Save that garden.

  4. We have deer, ground squirrels, chipmunks, hawks (that eat them), Great Blue Herons, eagles and osprey hunting the fish. Lots of fish in the river and lakes. These are what I see every day. Loved your photos of a badger. Those are rare to see. Be careful.

  5. We have rabbits and birds, mostly. We live in the Canadian prairies, but in town, so we don't get any of the larger wildlife.

  6. I love the badger photo. I've never seen one in the wild. Impressive, aren't they?

When we were in Arizona, we watched birds including roadrunners and those adorable quail Patricia mentioned with topknots and a family running behind them, plus mule deer, coyotes, and the occasional tarantula. We've been home in Alaska for almost a month now. The first week we ran across a moose on our walk in the park and last week a black bear stopped by around eleven-thirty to raid a neighbor's trash can. He sat down for a picnic on the lawn, while several neighbors went out on our second-story decks and took pictures. That was only the second bear we've seen in our neighbohood in the 26 years we've been here.

  7. I have mostly birds, squirrels, and possums but when I worked in the timber business, I saw a fox once and more snakes than I ever want to see again...and coyotes. Thank goodness I never encountered a skunk. :-)

  8. We have deer everywhere. I admit they can be dangerous on the road, but they are so beautiful, and we think they consider our three-acre yard to be a deer preserve--which is perfectly okay with us!

  9. I miss my usual morning walks where I generally see desert wildlife. I hope I soon recover enough from my surgery to get back out. I love watching people walking their dogs, but like the coyotes, javelina, and occasionally cougar as well as smaller rabbits, road runners, etc.

  13. Our home backs onto the Oak Ridges Moraine so we have lots of critters visiting. I'm glad we haven't seen badgers, though, because my understanding is that they can be mean and our dogs haven't met a critter they wouldn't like to play with! Thanks for sharing the cute pics, Eleanor!
