In Search of the Perfect Wedding Dress

By Jeannie Watt

Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a lovely Wednesday.

My daughter is getting married in November and I have wedding gowns on the brain. I’m traveling to San Francisco to go dress shopping with her in April and, in the meantime, we’ve made a Pinterest board so that we can share ideas. She’ll have to order her dress shortly after my visit, so, you know—no pressure or anything. Here’s some of the things we’re looking at:

We both love the lace back dresses with the covered buttons.

But we’ve also started pinning these very classic simple designs.

One of the places we’re most excited to visit is Alt. Brides, which started in a truck as a mobile bridal service. It’s now in a brick and mortar store, which makes me a little sad. I really wanted to visit a bridal truck, but I guess I just have to roll with the punches.

I have a feeling that we may come back with a dress that neither of us had considered, because when we shop for special occasion dresses, it's often the one we try on as a joke that ends up looking best. Must be some kind of primal shopping instinct kicking in during those situations.

Which kind of dress do you prefer? The lacy ones, the classic satin, or something in between?

  1. Welcome to the Heartwarmng blog, Jeannie! How wonderful to be going shopping for bridal dresses with your daughter, too. I still have my dress in a garment bag in my closet but doubt it will ever be worn again in a wedding. 50 years ago next year - think high neck and those mutton chop (?) sleeves. I’m sure your daughter will be lovely in whichever design she chooses. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your debut release for Heartwarmmg.

  3. JEANNIE!!!!! So so so glad you'll be writing for Heartwarming!

I do like the lacy dresses with the fabric-covered buttons. Though I can imagine those will be hard to in-button. *wink wink*

Again, so great to "see" you again and to read more about your Montana Bull Riders in August

  5. I recently went here for a party and right from the moment I walked in I was in awe and I can only hope my daddy dearest offers to pay for my wedding here someday! At San Francisco wedding venues they took care of every little detail one can think of.
