Patricia Johns: Perfectly Plus-sized

I'm not thin.

A lot of women aren't! So I know I'm not alone in that. But have you ever noticed that we are told in the media, in movies, in advertisements--pretty much everywhere!--that we should be striving to be thin? And when every image we see in the media praises a certain body type that we don't have, it's hard to look in the mirror and feel beautiful.

I hate that. I hate being silently told that I'm not enough. It ticks me off, and sounds a whole lot like a challenge.

There are so many beautiful women who are plus-sized, so I made the choice to embrace my figure at whatever weight I was at. I was going to love my body and spend more on clothing so that I had clothes that flattered me. And I vowed to never diet again, because being hungry makes me irritable, and I believe I deserve a full plate of food at meal time.

That was all grit, determination and a fair dose of spite. And then I discovered something spectacular...

My husband likes me with some weight on me! As in, he prefers me with some extra weight! And every time I age a little and my metabolism changes a bit and I put on a bit more weight, he rediscovers just how sexy he finds me.

Media be damned--I don't want to be thin!

Patricia Johns--eating. Because a woman deserves a full plate of food. You can quote that. ;)

So I decided to write a romance where the heroine looked like me--curves, cleavage, some jiggle, some belly... Not only did I want her to look like me, but I wanted her to be fully confident in her body. Then I wanted the hero to take one look at her and think, My God, she's perfect!

Because we all deserve to have someone who not only loves us exactly the way we are, but who is wildly attracted to us, too. My personality might be a real treat, but I am so much more than personality... Curves, soft skin, some jiggle... it's beautiful! It's alluring! It belongs in a romance novel.

This month, that book finally comes out: HER LAWMAN PROTECTOR. I've been anxiously awaiting this one. I hope you'll pick up a copy and discover Liv Hytlon, the owner of a brand new bookstore in the mountain town of Eagle's Rest.  She's gorgeous. She's curvy. She's sassy. And she's pretty sure she's being stalked.

I think you'll like her!

  2. She sounds great, and so do you and your husband. Although I've never achieved that level of confidence, I'm glad for and proud of people who do.

  4. As someone who has battled weight all my life, I can't agree more with how you wrote your heroine. I don't get the emphasis on thinness. It's being healthy at any weight. I have an older sister who's been twiggy all her life. She has problems being able to eat enough. Doctors prescribed milkshakes when she was younger and she hated them. And some people almost kill themselves trying to be a size two.

    1. He sure is! He's even the super-fit type of guy. I told him that I read about men with strong chests and big muscles, and it's not fantasy for me. I crawl into bed with that every night! I just love that he loves what I bring to the table, too. ;)

  7. I’m going to have to read this one!! I’ve always struggled with my weight, and I’ve really put on some pounds over the past year. Thankfully my husband has no issues with it either. Never has. Now if only I could find some comfortable fitting clothes.
