Green...the Heart of Heartwarming by Catherine Lanigan & Rula Sinara

Last month we told you about the color red. This month, the month of spring, is all about St. Patrick’s Day and hope and healing from the winter blues. So, we thought we’d tell you all about green for luck, health and happiness, including the Heart Chakra, which is associated with the color green.

Just as the heart is the energy center of the body, the color green is at the center of the chakra ‘rainbow’, which begins with red at our base (picture where you meet the ground when sitting cross-legged) and runs all the way up through violet at the top of our head. Balancing the green chakra helps heal our moods and our bodies. The heart chakra is where our physical and spiritual meet. It’s the ‘heart’ of love and compassion. For more on the chakra, check out this link http://www.chakras.info/ or https://www.color-meanings.com/heart-chakra-the-fourth-chakra/.

It’s interesting that the green chakra also represents prosperity and abundance. Note that this doesn’t necessarily refer to money/wealth, yet money in our society is represented by the color green. Also, people can get jealous of those with money or ‘more’ in life and we all know the expression ‘green with envy’. We’d call that an out of balance heart chakra for sure!

And speaking of rainbow colors and money…aka pots of gold at the end of rainbows…this is St Patrick’s Day month too! Another day symbolized by green. Four leaf clovers and Shamrocks! Bring them on! We could all use some good luck when it comes to prosperity and love :).
Double Rainbow as seen from Rula's backyard this past fall. It was a full arch...

Full arch double rainbow as seen from Rula's place. The glitch is from an unsteady hand trying to use the panorama setting.

We can’t think of the color green without thinking of trees, grass, plants and basically our Earth. There’s a reason terms like the ‘Green movement’ or ‘Going Green’ have come about. It all ties into love for our planet. That link between our hearts and our home.

And ‘hearts and home’ leads us to think of the type of romance Harlequin Heartwarming brings to readers. It’s rather perfect that the main cover color of our Heartwarming line (and blog page) is…green!

Rula's tulips...more like late March to early April

For many, March brings the first perennial bulbs peeking out from the ground. Daffodils, crocuses and tulips bring color back to our world. Staying positive is so important during the dark winter days. Flowers keep our spirits up. We need spring. The world greening up is about rejuvenation and hope. We all need that.

Maybe that’s why we love our covers so much, especially the ones that have lots of flowers and grass, and baby animals (reminding me of colts, puppies and kittens born in the spring) and of course, weddings. It’s conjures up the feeling of hope, new beginnings and…back to the heart chakra…LOVE.

  1. I was just looking out the office window praying for just a hint of green. You ladies gave it to me! Thank you! Hugs to you both.

  2. Like Liz, I badly needed some green today as I look out into my snow covered backyard. I also found all the historical and mystical connections of the color interesting. Thank you, ladies, for this glimpse of what’s to come!

    1. Hi, Janice! I loved our RED for February and since Green is for the heart, I am very aware of the green color around me and my home...always hoping it balances my heart and keeps me HEALTHY!

    2. Janice, I find it all very interesting too. In fact, another tidbit is that in some cultures (like Persian speaking countries) green is either worn or used in engagement ceremonies because it's a good omen. Prosperity and abundance :).

  3. Thanks--I also enjoy those symbolic connections with color. Love the rainbow photos. I saw a double, ground-to-ground rainbow driving on the interstate in Nebraska a few years ago, and it's a sight I'll never forget. It lasted long enough for me to really take it in as I drove. What luck!

    1. Hi, Virginia, Honestly, I've never seen a double rainbow like that! Earth to earth. I always feel it is a miracle to see rainbows. Jewels in the sky. Thanks for commenting.

    2. It was such a cool rainbow, Virginia! And my phone camera couldn't capture the colors. They were super intense and bright in person.

  4. I have ONE courageous daffodil poking up through snow and this bitter cold wave but it DOES give me hope. Thanks, Liz!

  5. Daffodils in my area are slowly blooming, but battered from the weather. They are still beautiful. Wild onions are also in the air (literally). When people mow, the scent can be overpowering. They won't bloom for a while, but are quite pretty when they do.

    1. Oh, Callie...to see daffodils! My favorite. I have huge buds on my weeping Cherry tree, but right this second it's snowing again. My weather app says this is the coldest March on record. Lovely. Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Spring can't come soon enough! We have daffodils blooming along with peach and cherry trees. Unfortunately the 20 degree nights we've had lately will get many of the blooms. Maybe just enough to thin them out. :-) Loved the rainbow photo!

    3. Patricia, wasn't that just the best? Seeing these lovely spring photos help me so much to stay positive. I'm ready for geraniums! Pink ones, coral. Red. Any color!

  6. I love green, and enjoyed learning about the meaning behind it. In the spring, when the birch buds start to swell and open, the forest goes from brown to faintly yellow to yellow-green to full bright green in less than two weeks. That double rainbow is incredible!

    1. Hi, Beth! Ah, the birch buds! It's been a long time since I've seen those. I used to, though. BUT..you are right...as I look out my kitchen window down a one mile stretch of the nearly 100 year old golf course across the street, the faint yellow and Alice green of the weeping willows as they leaf out are magical. I love those early spring greens. Very different than summer greens.

  7. Wow! Wonderful post. I have always loved the color green. Now I know why, lol! Spring is way too short here in Arizona, but right now the leaves are starting to bud, the weather is beautiful and I am going to soak it all in while I can. And the double rainbow picture is fabulous!

    1. I remember my 8 years of life in Scottsdale and spring there is incredible. I love, love the grapefruit trees and the orange blossoms. We had lemon and lime trees, lots of bouganvilla and the flowering cactus. Nothing like it. The rabbits ate all my geraniums. I learned to put those in hanging baskets!

  8. Green is also a color of life and everlasting life for some.
