A New Decade

Happy New Year’s Day! Today is the first of fifty-three Wednesdays of 2020. By all accounts, it should be a day like any other. And yet? There’s something almost magical about opening a new calendar and, if you’re like me, hanging it on a wall. Today is the first day of a new decade, a time full of hope and possibilities, of dreams and bright beginnings. The twenties are here.
January has long been a month of new beginnings for me. I married my wonderful husband on the first Saturday in January long past. After my parents and I loaded their station wagon with what we needed at the church, we discovered the car wouldn’t start, and we had to transfer everything to their compact car. Our oldest daughter was born on the first Friday of January. My husband and I called both sets of parents to tell us to meet us at the hospital. Then we made our way out to our car, which had my overnight bag and the baby’s car seat. My husband went to start the car, and nothing (we later found out the timing belt was broken). We transferred everything into his little hatchback. By the time we arrived at the hospital, our parents were pacing the halls wondering if I’d had the baby on the way. A few years ago, we went to an adopt-a-dog event, and our Basset hound Vera adopted our family. And in January of last year, I received the call from Harlequin Heartwarming with the exciting offer to publish my debut novel, The Sheriff’s Second Chance, a book about second chances. The extra tidbit of good news from that day was my car started when I picked up my twins from school.
And now we’re on the verge of a new decade. I’m not one for resolutions, but I love the anticipation of hope that this new day brings. For once, I’m thinking about small positive steps to keep that spark of hope alive all year round. Sharing some of my childhood favorite movies and television shows with my twins, baking some of my favorite cookie recipes with them, and visiting some new places with my family along with celebrating a special birthday and an anniversary.
Happy New Year’s Day 2020! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and get to know a little bit about me. Please visit again on Sit Down Saturday on Jan. 18.
How are you greeting the first day of the new decade?

  2. Hi, Tanya! So glad to have you as my blogging partner here. I love the stories about your January experiences. Lots of car trouble at exactly the worst time. I haven't made a New Year's resolution (I tend not to keep them), but I did buy a new planner pad. We'll see if I actually use it! Happy New Year to you and your family.

  5. Happy New Year. My resolution remains the same. When I eventually achieve it to my satisfaction, then I might choose another. My activities for the first day of 2020 included some work at the computer and a lot of walking.
