NOT JUST ANOTHER NEW YEAR, BUT A NEW DECADE by Catherine Lanigan & Rula Sinara

CATHERINE: Welcome to 2020! Rula and I wish all who read this and your families and friends, a healthy, abundant, happy and joy-filled new decade.

As we put away our holiday decorations, clean up the confetti from the New Year’s Eve celebrations and think abut the tasks that January always brings, we thought we should take a moment to reflect on this new decade we’ve entered.

First off, I am mindful that “2020” is the medical term for “clear vision” or “perfect sight”. My reaction to that is, “Everything around the world seems to be pretty muddy.” And perhaps that the point. We can each do our part to make this next year and decade a brighter and more loving one.

For Heartwarming authors, there is one truth that keeps echoing in the voices of our readers, reviewers and bloggers. Our stories lift spirits. Our stories not only provide a “happily ever after”, but we show the way; light the path of what alterations in our own perceptions bring the kind of positive attitudes to relationships that result in HEA. Happier lives and committed community relationships.

Though the world and life has always been a series of challenges for most of us, if not all, the joys and love-sharing, not only in romantic relationships but within our communities, wraps around every Heartwarming story.

As a group, we have been blessed since our inception with not only outstanding writers, but a group of people who have shared respect, admiration and compassion for each other. This is what has set Heartwarming authors head and shoulders above any group I’ve ever known. As we move into the new decade, some of us will retire. Some of us will move on to other lines. Some of us will remain, but the fact of our group is that we have come together at a time in history that readers needed our “uplifting” stories

What is certain is that all the Harlequin Heartwarming authors with releases in 2020 will carry our message of HEA’s to all of our readers. We hope you enjoy every story we bring you, including Rula’s next release, Caught by the Sheriff, out this March. And just look at these wonderful Harlequin Heartwarming stories coming out in the next three months!

RULA: Thanks for the shout out, Catherine! Of course, being “Caught by the Sheriff” doesn’t sound like anything anyone wants happening to them in 2020, LOL, but I assure you the story is all about love, family and the lengths we’ll go to protect loved ones. Besides, take a look at the cover. I mean…he’s one good looking sheriff to get caught by ;).

But back to the New Year and decade! I so agree with you, Catherine. The world could use a mega dose of positivity, love and peace right now. Books may not be able to stop devastating natural disasters, poverty/hunger, personal battles or wars (of any kind), but they can make a difference, if only a dent. They can open minds and hearts…or they can offer a brief escape. Sometimes stories are enough to give a person a nudge to do the right thing. To empower themselves and others.

I recently saw Frozen II with my kids and all this makes me think of the song ‘The Next Right Thing’ sung by Anna/Kristen Bell. I think when life seems—as Catherine said—muddy…resolving to just do what we know in our hearts to be right…the next right thing…is a great way to clear the path ahead. It might just be the secret to that 20/20 vision for 2020 and the decade to come.

Wishing you all love, peace, happiness…and wonderful stories. Happy New Year!

Rula & Catherine

  4. I think new decades are always a good time for excitement and reflection. I have a release in May I'm looking forward to and congratulations to everyone with new books and projects in the works. I confess I'm finding it extremely difficult to be optimist and lighthearted in these dark times, but both writing and reading are my escape hatches!

    1. I confess completely to trying to find ANYTHING that pulls me out of these dark days. Walks in nature and just seeing flowers bloom helps. I am even learning to appreciate these cold winter days.

    1. God bless you for caring about this situation. Every single soul on earth has the challenge today to find that positive light in their lives. If its only giving a smile and a kind word to another person who might not have heard that kindness for days, you have lifted the earth. It takes us all, one thought, one smile, one gesture at a time to create peace and goodwill. God bless.

    2. I agree with your positive/optimistic vision! There's always hope as long as kind acts and positivity are put out there. If we all do right by others, the scale will tip in favor of a better world.
