Gotta Love Those Old Sayings!

Well, the old saying is true, everything can change in the blink of an eye. I’m sure that two months ago none of here had even the tiniest inclination we’d be social distancing, wearing face masks and gloves to the grocery store in a frantic attempt to find toilet paper and hand sanitizer, and sheltering at home.

These are difficult days. There’s a new normal I’m still adjusting to and frankly don’t like. I worry about the long term effects this virus will have on the economy, about my children’s future, and if my mom, who suffers from dementia, will remember me when I'm finally allowed to see her again. I wake up every morning and my first thought is, do I feel sick? Thankfully, I don’t.

The professionals say it’s normal to feel down and discouraged and sad and scared. I’m no exception. The best thing I’ve found to keep my spirits lifted (besides writing and losing myself in my characters’ story) is to count my blessings. Yes, another old saying but one that is equally true. I am so grateful for the many things have.

I’m not going to list them. Rather, I’m going to show you in pictures and hopefully, I’ll bring a small smile to your face. Now, you can’t get off Scott free. You have to tell me something you’re grateful for in the comments below 😀

  2. Wonderful photos, Cathy. Thanks for this snapshot of your personal life. Like you, I’m most grateful for my family. They’re all still healthy and so am I.

  3. I hate food photos, but that one of the corn on the cob and barbecue is so appealing, I could eat the screen. We actually had barbecue and corn yesterday, but none on the cob. I'm down to only a little milk and half a loaf of bread, almost no salad fixings, so I have to go to the store soon.

    1. While not a picture of my dinner (stock photo), we did actually cook ribs in the smoker yesterday. Great meal, and we ate outside on the patio. My spirits were lifted! And, yeah, I have to go to the store this week, too :)

  5. I'm thankful for all the things you've shown, although I'd replace Starbucks with teabags. I'm thankful that the snow is melting and we can still get outside for walks and fresh air as long as we're mindful of distance. I'm thankful for food in the freezer and pantry, and always, always, for good books. I'm thankful for this community.

  6. I love all your pictures, Cathy. I'm grateful for my cell phone with unlimited minutes so I can call and talk to my mom. And for as challenging as staying at home every day is, I'm grateful for this extra time with my children.

  7. Thanks--I think of all the abundance in my life--even though my kids aren't close by. I still have the array of regular means of communication-- house phone, cell phone, computer. My daughter is in touch all the time, my son, well, less so, but I love him anyway! I'm grateful to see fresh food in the supermarket and my shelves of books and a kindle. So far, my clients are continuing with their projects--big relief. Yep, I count lots of blessings. Miss my coffee dates with my writing buddies, though.
