Happy Social Distancing

I chatted with a friend on FaceTime over the weekend, and she said that she has talked with friends more on the phone over the last three weeks than she has over the last several months. There is something about living through the same global pandemic that makes people want to reach out and chat (or commiserate) with friends, huh?

Over the past few weeks I have found myself connecting with friends and family in new ways.

1. I've called and talked to people I normally only message on Facebook
2. Instead of visiting my nephews, I talked to them in our very own Zoom meeting on the computer
3. My grandmother is in the very high risk group so she stood on her front porch stoop and I stood in her yard and we talked. Once the weather is much warmer, I hope to sit with her in the backyard.
4. We've been "attending" church online in the comfort of our own home

Below is a picture of me practicing proper social distancing. My girlfriends and I usually meet for dinner about once a month, but yesterday we met in the church parking lot and sat in our cars. Don't worry - we were more than six feet apart. We came prepared with blankets, sunglasses and snacks. The hours passed just as quickly as they do when we're holding up a table at Panera.

How have you been staying connected during quarantine? Have you come up with any creative ways to stay connected?

My new book, WHERE THE HEART MAY LEAD, comes out June 1st! I'm so excited to share Charlie and Paige's love story with you.

Love wasn’t worth the risk
Until she met him
Paige Cartman’s quest to protect her family has brought her to the idyllic lakeside town of Roseley. Revealing her old life to anyone—especially to charismatic pilot Charlie Stillwater—could put others in jeopardy. Charlie is falling fast for warmhearted Paige, but her secrecy reminds him of another’s betrayal. Can Paige finally leave her shadowed past behind and trust that love has led her home?

  1. Love that photo of,you in the rear of the vehicle! Yes we’re all learning to be inventive and resourceful these days. Usually I’m not a fan of phone calls, but have made contact with so many people lately..by phone, email, FB and Instagram. We’re lucky to have so many options. Like you, my husband and I are having a backyard visit with friends...6ft or more apart of course. Thanks for the post...it’s comforting to hear others are doing much the same as we are!

  3. Great ideas! I'm trying to figure out some way to entertain my 93-year-old mother, who is confined to her room in an assisted-living home. I sent books, but she's having trouble reading right now. Other than frequent calls, I'm coming up blank.

    2. Does she have a way to listen to audio books through the library (like Overdrive)? She'd need a device of some sort to log onto the site.

  4. Nice to hear I'm not the only one who had a parking lot visit with a friend--talking across the cars...it was great fun, actually.
