I used to sew a lot. Then, I sold my first book and suddenly sewing time took a backseat. It was that or give up reading time - not going to happen.
My favorite craft is crochet. I learned when I was about twelve. I babysat for the woman next door and she taught me. Pretty soon every female in my family owned a shawl in some outragous color (usually orange).
Now I pretty much stick to baby sweaters and dolls.
This is one of my dolls. She's in the Brenda Novak auction right now. People can bid on her and the money goes to diabetes. My father-in-law has diabetes and so did my grandmother. If you'd like to see what a bunch of romance authors do, not for fun but for serious, head on over to the auction. Brenda's focus in on childhood diabetes. She's making a difference.
I've included the link after the photo.
Brenda Novak's auction
Pam you are so talented! She's such a beautiful princess. If I had this talent I would do it for fun too! I don't get a lot of down time, but when I do, I like to read - I love all genres and right now I'm reading Elizabeth Strout's THE BURGESS BOYS which is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Grave Sight by Kalanda Price. Lately, I've been doing paranormals.
DeletePam, all the time I've known you I didn't know you crocheted. But it doesn't surprise me as you are one of the crafty ladies actually. My mother tried to teach me to crochet as she did all of the hand crafts. I learned to sew (at one time made most of what the girls and I wore and even did a couple of jackets for Denny) But I couldn't crochet. I love embroidery. When I do it now I get in a frenzy and make a dozen sets of pillow cases. I have to get the ones that don't have crochet around the bottom edge. Love the doll, and love Brenda's auction. Both are awesome. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteRoz,
DeleteThat's how Alison and I became friends. I came to Tucson for something and she offered her spare bedroom. I wound up staying up until four in the morning and teaching Amber how to crochet (she'd just learned and I knew more stitches).
Amber was still in high school. I was single and a fairly new writer. I embroider, too, but not often. And, I've made a quilt. One. More th an a decade ago.
Pam - I, too, learned to crochet at a young age. Often confined in deep winter in Massachusetts, everyone did something crafty. I remember that my first project was a simple scarf. Because my mother was so into doing it right, I ripped out and started over so many times that by the time that poor scarf was finished it was kind of grubby. But I did it! I often make scarves for Christmas gifts. Also - as the wife of a diabetic who is really suffering the effects of prolonged illness, I appreciate your and Brenda Novak's contributions to fight it. Send her a hug for me!
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling the need to craft right now. When we come visit you, we'll plot, brainstorm, and craft.
DeleteYeaaaaay!
DeleteHi Pam!
ReplyDeleteThat doll is gorgeous! My creativity ends with writing, I'm afraid.
Brenda Novak's auction is incredible. I've been bidding on some items over there as well. My husband has diabetes and has had it since he was a teenager, so I agree that Brenda is doing a wonderful thing with this auction. Everyone should check it out!

Oh, do tell, what are you bidding on? I've been looking at jewelry.
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested in the author promotion stuff mostly. But it seems everytime I bid, I'm immediately outbid lol:) I'd love to bid on the trips, but most are offered from the US only and I'm in Canada:(
DeleteI just checked out the jewelery! Beautiful stuff:)
DeletePam, I love the pic. Such talent!
ReplyDeleteMy husband crochets too and is currently working on an afghan for our bed. He also quilts :) Besides reading, my hobby I'd have to say is cooking. Which may be why I struggle with losing weight LOL.
