Not Just a Writer, Also a Wife

This will be short. George is back in the hospital since last Wednesday with a nasty foot. They didn’t have to take any bone, but they did have to carve a hole in the sole of his foot. Not as gross as it sounds. Could have been worse. Anyway, it’s starting to be creepy. My Heartwarming Taking the Reins (September) has someone with a knee replacement—Pat Potter just had one. And a guy who has lost the front half of his right foot. Awfully close to George. Too close for comfort. Then we have one vet with no right hand and another who has burn scars. Believe me, I am staying away from power tools and lighting the oven.
Why is it that when the people we love get sick or hurt, our (my) first reaction is anger? When I get scared I get mean, and recently I have been scared a lot. Therefore, I have been a rip-snorting witch a good deal of the time. I pray for patience, but I don’t handed patience on a silver platter, and sometimes I don’t do my part. All I want is write, look after my family and play with my horses. At least he has his whole foot. So, sorry, guys. I’ll do better next time. Thanks for your forbearance.  Carolyn

  1. Carolyn,
Sending you warm fuzzy thoughts, because I don't have a teddy bear to send you. I think we all need squishable toys like we had when we were kids. I hope life gets better soon for both you and George. And give Pat Potter my best wishes, too.

  2. Carolyn - I'm so sorry you have so much to bear. But, I think we're together on this blog to help and support each other in whatever we need, not just in our writing. I understand your situation, though mine isn't as dire as yours. The caregiver really lives two lives - your own, with deadlines, revisions, the need to come up with new and romantic ideas in the midst of a life that would kill romance if it wasn't in your soul - then the life in support of your husband's because without your care and dedication, he probably wouldn't have one. So, don't be so hard on yourself. If you're a witch at all, you're a good witch. When you're scared, remember that you're not alone -you've got us and Somebody Really Big beside you every minute.

  5. You'll make it past this. Keep that thought in mind and keep going. Sometimes that's all you can do.

  6. Love is our business but it doesn't make our real lives a fairy tale. You and your husband are going through tough times, but what a blessing to have each other and to support one another with the love you share. My prayers are with you.
