Eight Days to Go... Go Shopping!!

Pamela Tracy here, and it's Christmas time at my house.  Yup, oh yup.

So, my eight year old was invited to a birthday party last Friday night and then to stay the night.  Hubby and I decided romantic dinner out and then Christmas shopping.

Eight year old got grounded.  Missed birthday party.

Hubby and I decided that while eight year old was in school yesterday, we'd do lunch at nice but not  romantic restaurant and then Christmas shop.

Sunday night my son complained of an ear ache.  Soon, he announced that his ear was broken.  Should I mention that he'd played all day with no complaint.  At about 11 p.m. he woke us up weeping.

At midnight Hubby and I are in the emergency room hearing the words "rip-roaring ear infection and ruptured eardrum."

We held our son, went to a 24 hour pharmacy, and then returned home.  We looked at the calendar.  There were no more shopping opportunities between his work and mine.  None, nada, nein.

So, babysitter Grandpa to the rescue!

Hubby and I got all our shopping done in two hours and ate at the food court.  Btw, although our son wants the brown dog that poohs playdough, we did not buy it.  LOL

<sigh>  I love being a wife and mom.

I love Christmas.

So, are you done with your shopping?

  1. LOL Pamela! I feel your pain (luckily not your son's pain!) Sometimes nothing goes as planned and we just have to roll with the punches. I think I am done shopping. I really need to sit down and look at what I've got to be sure. I love Christmas. I hate the stress! Hope your son feels better soon :)

    1. He had a field trip today and I was the chaperone. We went. He held his ear the entire time. Still, we had fun.

  2. Pam, just keep planning those romantic dinners out. Mike will grow up and give you space. I'm so sorry he had a bad ear infection and ruptured ear drum. Having worked a dozen years for 3 pediatricians I can tell you almost all earaches flare up worse at night. It's because the fluid drains into the ear as the child tries to lie down to sleep. It was the same with my youngest daughter's asthma where we spent many a night in an emergency room. Oh, and how like a boy to want a dog that poohs playdough. I'm sure it was designed by some man who thought it'd be so cool.

    1. Okay, Roz, I'm calling you next time. I decided it was hard wax build up and put him in a hot tub, which apparently, since the eardrum had ruptured, was the worst thing I could do.

    2. Um, btw, by hot tub I mean the tub in his bathroom. We can't afford a real hot tub and if we had one, I'd be in it.

  3. Pam - you're such a heroine! Making do with a two-hour shopping window and dinner at the food court is, as Amy said, a roll-with-the-punches solution. Good for you. I've sent baskets to all our distant relatives and still have to do a few things for local grandchildren and great grandchildren. (We stand shoulder to shoulder in our determination against Play Doh-pooping dogs!) My nativity's up and sparkly garland hangs everywhere and that makes me feel ready.

  4. Hope your son is feeling better! Poor thing! Mine had a tough time with ear infections when they were babies and one had to have tubes put in. We've suffered through them as older kids too. I've had them and they're really painful. As Amy said, nothing ever seems to go as planned...esp with kids! Nothing like a romantic food court date LOL. Glad you and hubby got a breather :)

  5. Pam, you poor mom! Good thing you're flexible (one of the first of many talents moms must learn).

My mom complained that one of us girls got sick for Christmas every year (usually my sister Sue). Then one year, we all came down with chicken pox the night of the Christmas pageant at church. I guess that was payback for her comment. LOL.

    Have a great Christmas!
