Sit-Down Saturday with Patricia Bradley

Today we’re celebrating the release of
Patricia Bradley's
 Matthew’s Choice.

So, Patricia, where did you get the idea for this novel? The idea of a man who had the brass ring of success in his hands only to discover it left him empty popped into my head as I drove between Chattanooga and my home in Mississippi.

What Am I Missing?

In looking at the cover, if you could add a caption or captions, what would they say? I love the cover! And the Matthew on it looks just like the Matthew I envisioned as I wrote the story.

How long did it take you to write? It was my first romance story and it took about 5 months from thought to finished manuscript—not counting editing. That was another month.

What is your favorite scene?
I have several—the opening with Noah, and I like the whole scene that ends with Matthew trying to tie a bowtie and Allie helping him.

Who was your favorite character and why? Matthew was my favorite. I loved seeing him go from who he is at the beginning of the book to who he is at the end.

If you could pick fictional characters to play the hero and heroine, who would they be? A 30-something Luke Wilson for Matthew and Laura Ramsey for Allie.

Tell us one thing you learned during research. I learned a lot about the Foster Care system and the Department of Human Services.

What music would match the mood of this novel? I listened to Soul and Inspiration by the Righteous Brothers A. Lot. as I wrote Matthew’s Choice.

This is your
1st  Heartwarming book, but your 4th book overall.  Exactly what does that mean to you? I also write Inspirational romantic suspense stories and I am so excited to write a straight romance. I love the genre and loved writing Matthew’s story.

What do you plan to work on next? I am currently working on a 4th book in my Logan Point series, and will start another Heartwarming book set in Cedar Grove by December—I have this great story about…maybe I better wait to announce that!

What are you reading for pleasure right now? Becky Wade’s Meant to Be Mine and Nike Chillemi’s Harmful Intent.

  2. I like your cover. It's wonderful when the male pictured actually represents the person in the book.

  3. Patricia, Congratulations! This sounds like a great book! I love stories where the hero/heroine think they want one thing only to discover what they really want is something else all together--especially when it's love(:

  4. Carol, love your story on how this idea just popped into your head while driving. It's so interesting because that's the number one thing readers ask I've been told---"where do you get your ideas?" I always say they come from a big idea warehouse in the sky. I'm waiting impatiently for my subscription to arrive.

  5. Patricia - all good wishes on the release of Matthew's Choice! It's amazing how perfectly the hero depicted matches your caption - "What Am I Missing?" And what a good jump off point for story creation. I hope there was no one else on the road when you got the idea. When a good thought occurs to me (and that's rare) I'm usually so excited that I focus on what could come of it and totally forget everything else. But, you're here, and not in a body cast, so I presume all was well. Sincerely - congratulations!

    1. Muriel, I'm afraid some of my best ideas come when I'm driving, and since I don't like to fly, I often drive to conferences, etc, so I have a lot of thinking time. I do pull over if I want to write it down. :-)
