The Sweetheart Plan by Syndi Powell

What is your story about?
Megan Sweet is working alone in her bakery when the roof collapses due to the heavy snow on top of the building. She's afraid that she's lost everything, so she reaches out for help to the last person she expected, Adam Hawkins. Adam was a high school bully who has returned to town and manages the local bank. He is eager to help local businesses affected by the roof collapse and restore his reputation in town. Together, they work to save her bakery but also to find peace about what happened between them in high school and perhaps find a future together.

What inspired you for this story?
Bullying is a hot topic right now. I wanted to be able to explore the issue from several angles, so I made my hero an ex-bully. I wanted to figure out what made him the way he was, why he stopped and how he could come back from the reputation.

What is your favorite scene from this book?
I'd have to say that I had a lot of fun writing the scenes that take place on the girls only weekend at the cabin. I enjoyed being able to catch up with other characters from previous books and place possible hints for future stories. Also, the final scene in the book was based on something that I did with family and friends one New Years' Eve. We let balloons go as a symbol of letting go of the bad things from that year so we could be fresh and new for the coming one.

Who inspired your characters?
I pictured Megan Sweet as Carrie Underwood and Adam Hawkins as Adam Levine. When I wrote, I listened to their music to keep their faces in mind.

What is next for you?
I'm currently working on a proposal for three books about three women on different points of the breast cancer journey: one being diagnosed, one in the middle of treatment and the other at the end of treatment and facing life after cancer. I'm really excited to be able to bring my own experiences to these women and share their stories of finding life in the middle of facing death.

  4. The new book sounds like a good current topic for sure. As is your proposal. So many people I know are in some stage of breast cancer survival that it's scary.

  5. Syndi, you have me hooked! I want to know why the hero was a bully? What happened between them in high school? Is he redeemable? Congratulations! I love the title and the cover, too.

  7. I love that cover!! And what an interesting concept of having the bully be redeemed! I like that. Can't wait to read it. Actually, I'm waiting to get the HH books at my local WM so I can contribute to keeping them there! But this month I waited too long and they were all gone!
