As expected, our attentions are shifting into holiday
mode. Second up: Thanksgiving (I consider Halloween as the first indicator of
holiday time). Who doesn’t like Thanksgiving? Probably 50% of the female
population. It’s a lot of work, but the payoffs are tremendous.
This year my family is going to a friend’s house for
dinner. We are each bringing a dish and a wine. My assignment is my usual green
bean casserole as well as pumpkin pies and rolls.
So how do you do Thanksgiving? Do you prepare the entire
meal? Do you ask guests to contribute? Do you go out to a restaurant? If you go
to someone’s house, do you bring your specialty dish? And what is it?
Every Thanksgiving gives us plenty of memories to reflect
on in the coming year. One of my memories involves a cute little Schnauzer I
once had. This dog couldn’t eat turkey. I would tell everyone that, but still
tiny bites would find their way to Shaney’s mouth under the table. For three
years in a row, I spent Thanksgiving night at the emergency pet care hospital.
Ah…the memories. Hope you'll share one of yours.
Hope your day is happy and full of wonderful bites.
Cynthia
Our Thanksgiving is different every year. This year we have a brand new granddaughter and are traveling to see her.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous. A new baby is the ultimate "thankful for..."

I used to be the go-to person for holiday extended-family meals. But not so now that my girls have their own families, live long distance away as do my sisters-in-law and their families. The past few years its been my sis and me. This year we're invited to a friend's home and will take a pie. That sounds good to me for a change.
ReplyDeleteSounds great to me too, Roz. Have a great one.
DeleteInteresting to observe the intensity of the American Thanksgiving preparations from the cooler climes of Canada. Best!
ReplyDeleteI'm the macaroni and cheese girl. I always make that for Thanksgiving (and every other request - holiday or not). I also do the Sweet Potato Puffs. There's a revolt if we don't have those.
ReplyDeleteOooo, I'd love to be coming to your house.
DeleteNow that my kids are grown and out of the house (this year, both of them are out of state), my Thanksgiving has really shrunk (used to host 30+ people). I'm sad as I miss the family but also glad that Mike and I are each blessed to have mothers alive and well. We'll share the day with them and a few other important people :)
ReplyDelete30+ ??? I'd be thankful when it was over!
DeleteMy kids have dictated what they want on the Thanksgivings we're together--the stuffing (my father's baby) and the Waldorf salad (my mother's claim to fame). When they were kids and we lived on the sailboat, we had the holiday lots of different places, and now, decades later, they still wonder how I managed to cook a turkey and everything that goes with it on on the boat stove. I wonder about that myself. I hope everyone has a nice holiday and weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou must be a magic chef!
DeleteI'll be doing the whole thing, including homemade pie crusts, but I do use stuffing in a box. I've already done one a couple of weeks ago when my daughter and her boyfriend visited. Tomorrow is for us and our son. Then on to turkey sandwiches - almost as enjoyable as the main meal. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the sandwiches, Beth. Nothing better on soft bread with Mayo
DeleteMy holiday just shrank from 10 to 3. :-) I have a cold and didn't want my little grand-niece to walk in on it so they are going on the the next house. :-) But it's all good. Just thankful to be up and about.
ReplyDeleteOh, Patricia, so sorry, but your grand niece's parents must appreciate your gesture
DeleteBeing Canadian, our Thanksgiving was in October. This Thanksgiving, I was tired, my doctor had put me on a vegetarian diet, and I was depressed about that. So my husband cooked. It ended up being an ordinary meal. But I didn't have to cook it, it was indeed vegetarian, and my dear hubby made it with love. I was very thankful!
ReplyDeleteYou have a good hubby!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving! Sorry I'm late to the party. Today was our annual kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast at school so I've been on the go all day long. :) Heading to the city tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving with family we don't see much. Should be interesting. Have a great turkey day!
ReplyDeleteI remember those school Thanksgiving meals. Sometimes they were very good.
