Would You Rather Holiday Edition by Amy Vastine & Carol Ross

Decorating, traveling, getting those cards in the mail, meal planning, shopping, parties, in-laws, secret Santa gifts for that person you know nothing about, and on it goes. Whatever holiday task you’re worrying about or working on right now, put it aside for a few minutes because we’re going to have some fun! Amy and I are going to help you imagine your holidays in a whole new way by playing a little game. So, grab your cup of coffee or a mug of eggnog and play along!

Carol and Amy visiting Santa earlier this month.
Would you rather shop with a limited budget and finish before Thanksgiving or have an unlimited budget and do all your shopping in one store in one hour on Christmas Eve?

Amy: Love this question, Carol! I don’t know if you know this about me, but I am the queen of speed shopping. I manage this by plotting and planning ahead of time. In real life, I clip my coupons the night before and write out my list so I can get everything I need at the best price. But what if I didn’t have to worry about money? Sign me up! I would absolutely pick unlimited budget on Christmas Eve because if you can give me a supercenter (Target preferably!) and all the money in the world, I can fill multiple carts full of everything my loved ones would want in sixty minutes or less!

Would you rather spend Christmas all alone in the location of your choice or spend it at home with EVERY single member of your extended family (no exceptions)?

Carol: All alone. Hawaii. Nuff said.

Would you rather eat an entire pound of fudge at one sitting or drink a gallon of eggnog?

Amy: This one is no contest. Fudge all the way. I don’t like eggnog and I think a drinking a gallon of anything might make me throw up. My one sitting might have to take me all day long, but I would give it my best shot! In fact, I just found this recipe for Peppermint Bark Fudge. Who’s with me?

Would you rather give up your Christmas morning coffee or your Christmas dinner dessert?

Carol: Oh my goodness, Amy, you know how much I love dessert! I am definitely with you and I cannot wait to try this recipe! I know this may shock you (and others who know me best) but I would sacrifice my dessert. And my family and friends would want me to choose this since they’d have to put up with me if I was caffeine-deprived on Christmas!

Now it’s your turn! We want to know:

Would you rather wear the ugliest ever light-up Christmas sweater to a formal holiday party where you know absolutely no one or dress as Santa Claus every day during the month of December?

Amy’s holiday novella, A Case for Christmas Magic, and Carol’s story, Gingerbread Girl are both a part of the holiday anthology, Heartwarming Holiday Wishes. Get your copy today on Amazon!

  1. I'd wear the ugliest sweater to a formal party BECAUSE I didn't know anybody. Everyone would certainly know me by the end of it. Very fun post, Carol and Amy!

    1. How interesting! I was thinking it would be worse NOT knowing anyone. People I know would just shrug and go "Yeah, whatever, she's up to something." Lol.

  2. I enjoyed this post very much Amy and Carol and us, guess I’d reluctantly wear that sweater! A friend of my husband's wears a Santa hat everywhere from Dec. 1st on and yes, came to dinner at our favourite restaurant last night in that hat. And I love the idea of a one-stop shopping event! Thanks for the recipe, too! Fudge all the way!

    1. Thanks, Janice. I'd go with the sweater, too, whether I knew people or not. Your friend's husband sounds like a very fun guy! I love people who embrace the Christmas spirit this way. My oldest sister has worn Christmas sweaters as long as I can remember. (Long before this recent "ugly sweater" craze.) She wears them everywhere all month long.

  3. Loved the post! I think for me it would be fudge with the egg nog! haha... and that peppermint fudge looks delicious! I need my coffee too in the morning. I love spending time with family, but solitude is sometimes a great thing. I would be the one wearing the ugly sweater to that Christmas party... Why? because I don't like to draw attention to myself... that said one night of it would be all I could handle. Wearing a Santa suit an entire month would make me extremely unhappy and uncomfortable.

    1. Thanks, Sandy! We had a lot fun coming up with questions. I like fudge AND eggnog, too. (Especially homemade.) I couldn't do the Santa suit, either. It makes me feel claustrophobic just thinking about it!

  4. I can always count on you two for adorable posts and this one is great. I would NEVER spend the holiday in solitude. I DID that once and thought I'd go out of my mind. I'd give up desert every day so I could have my coffee. Can't live without that hot mug by my side. And the shopping, I'm with Amy on this one all the way. I'll meet you at Target...a beloved place to shop! But the ugly sweater---sorry, I would stay home alone on that one. I wouldn't mind wearing the Santa hat for a month. I have a pink sequined one and a leopard print one. You pick. Merry Christmas...and by the way...I still have nearly ALL my shopping to do. Sigh.

    1. Thank you, Catherine! Sometimes I think Amy and share a brain. I agree, it would be difficult to spend Christmas alone. But the alternative....Lol. Sorry about your shopping! I'm almost done - don't hate me!

  5. My kids bought my husband an elf hat and he used to wear it the whole month of December when we made our daily walk to Starbucks. At first I was mortified, but everyone out walking would stop and talk and laugh, and by the time we got to Starbucks we knew everyone on the route. And people looked for us the next December. I also recall the first time our biggest mall opened the week before Christmas until midnight. We picked one night and did speed shopping through the mall, raced home and wrapped gifts until about three in the morning. Wouldn't do it again, but it was fun.

    1. Roz, Stealing a line from Steel Magnolias - your husband sounds like good people to me. That sounds like my kind of shopping. I really dislike shopping, although online shopping isn't so bad.

  6. You guys are too much fun!! I gotta go with the sweater--I'd wear that proudly! That Santa suit would be too hot! LOL.

    1. Right back at ya, AJS! And I agree! I absolutely could not do that Santa suit for a month. I'm not sure I could handle it for one day.

  7. Great questions. I'd go with the sweater, along with a backstory about why I was wearing it to the formal party. Maybe because it was too late to change after that one-hour shopping spree.

    1. Why does this not surprise me, Rula? You know what they say about great minds and all that! I'm the same with my coffee. And I'm not picky about it either as long as it's nice and strong. It's more about quantity for me rather than quality.

  11. When I worked at the post office, we window clerks wore Santa hats all through the month. It was great because, although we were still so busy we didn't have time to sneeze, we didn't have to do our hair! I'm pretty sure we occasionally even forgot to wash it. And I kind of like ugly sweaters, so...

    1. I think I like your post office, Liz. I can only imagine how busy you must have been during the holidays. It makes me tired just thinking about it. I'm also fond of anything that allows me to NOT do my hair. Lol.
