Searching For Good Looking Cowboys

Happy Memorial Day Everyone!

I don’t expect a lot of people here today. It’s a holiday, and I hope you’re somewhere exciting or doing something fun. Certainly not sitting in front of the computer like me My husband’s schedule recently changed, and he has to work. So, I figured I’d get a little research done for my books.

We writers spend a lot of time online looking up stuff. Often, we search out pictures and photographs for inspirations. Places, clothing, buildings, events, and, of course, characters. I like to find pictures of people who resemble what I imagine my hero and heroine look like and keep those pictures handy while I work on the book.

Seeing as I write contemporary westerns, I’m frequently Googling “good looking cowboy”. Many of the images that come up are what you’d expect and what I’m looking for. Like this one:

Then, there are pictures of cowboys I wouldn’t exactly call “good looking” and not what I had in mind for hero inspiration. (what's with the cat?)

While this isn't the kind of cowboy I was looking for, he’s certainly cute and maybe good for hero inspiration thirty years down the road.

Other pictures that pop up don’t have anything to do with the kind of cowboys I write.

Tell me, why do animal pictures always appear in my searches? They have nothing to do with good looking cowboys, either — though they are funny.

Then there are the pictures that truly confound me ☺ The description reads "western bar stool", which apparently is enough to bring it up in a search for cowboys.
Well, I'm through playing around online. Time to get serious and crank out a few pages. Here’s hoping you’re having a wonderful Memorial Day whatever you’re doing.

Warmest wishes,

  1. Seeing as how we here in Canada celebrated a long weekend last week, here I am. Congratulations on your strong contest finish, Cathy! I bet you could incorporate all those pics into a single story--okay, the hotdog cowboy might be a bit of a challenge...

  2. Google searches can be perplexing, to say the least, but that littlest cowboy you found is a looker all right. Thanks for sharing your cowboys with us today, and big congratulations on your awards!

  3. Cathy, I had to laugh at your photos. Well, the cowboy with the cat---is that not a bobcat? He must have captured it single-handedly. I recommend hanging out at the rodeo "beer barn" to find truly good-looking cowboys. I used to do that, because the cowboy walk always defied how to explain it in a book. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Congrats on the contests, and happy holiday weekend.

  5. I'm here! I'm finding my online searching dwindling these days, which is horrible because I use those images when AFS time rolls around, LOL. Need to get back to it, especially maybe for a cowboy . Yay on contests!! That's fabulous. <3

  6. Big congratulations on the contest--my favorite contest, since WisRWA is my home chapter. I'm clearing out paper in all forms today, so flipping through catalogs and magazines to "dress" my characters and get some hairstyles in mind. I like this kind of day--good luck with your cowboy quest!
