Runaway bride, small beach town & witness protection...New summer read!

What's life without a little suspense? Whether it's that drum roll before a big winner announcement or that period between meeting someone who makes your heart race in the best way possible and figuring out if they like you too or even what's in your wrapped gift under the tree, a bit of suspense pumps our adrenaline and keeps us going. Who doesn't like a little excitement? The good, harmless kind, at least. I believe that's why we're drawn to books and movies like....Jaws.

Is it safe to go in? That bird may know something we don't. (The Outer Banks/Rula's trip/2010)

Naturally, of all the options to choose from, I brought up the one with a determined shark. After all, it's beach season (evil grin). Now, now. I'm not trying to scare you out of the water. Go for it. At your own risk.

Speaking of taking risks...falling in love is a pretty big one. What about falling in love with someone who is living under a false identity? What about almost marrying them? On the flip side, what if telling your soul mate your true identity would put their life at risk?

The first book in my new series for Harlequin Heartwarming, ALMOST A BRIDE (Turtleback Beach series), involves a runaway bride, witness protection, sea turtle rescue, kittens, a rough collie named Laddie (a Lassie dog, for those who grew up with the show/movies) and a small, beach town you'll wish you could visit this summer.

The Outer Banks. Rula's trip.

The Outer Banks. Pic take from a family trip in 2010.

Well, you could, sort of. Not Turtleback Beach (unless you delve into the book), but you could visit the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where my town is set. Remember Nicholas Sparks' Nights in Rodanthe? Yep, that same stretch of barrier reef. Pristine beaches, lighthouses, dunes and the sound of crashing waves. Turtleback Beach is set somewhere between Rodanthe and Avon along the southern half of the Outer Banks.

(more pics from Rula's trip years ago...)

My family has vacationed there many times and now my college kids go with their friends. Our trips spanned from educational (the Wright Brother's museum where they first flew, The Lost Colony outdoor theater, sea turtle rescue organizations etc...) to pure enjoyment (rolling down dunes and lazy days on the beach).

The characters in ALMOST A BRIDE have a few adventures of their own, such as.... Nope. Not telling. No spoilers. Guess I'll have to leave you in suspense! ;)

Loving the art dept because these two look just like my inspiration actors, Eric Bana and Jessica Alba!

Can he love her…

And keep her safe?

No one in Turtleback Beach knows that veterinarian Grayson Zale is in the witness protection program—not even the woman who left him at the altar. When a joint inheritance brings Mandi Rivers back to their small seaside town, Gray can’t deny that their connection is as strong as ever. But his mysterious past remains between them; can he reveal the truth without endangering Mandi—and their future?
