Sit-Down Saturday: Tanya Agler

Thanks for joining me on my first Sit-Down Saturday. If you’re like me, your January is flying by. It’s been a busy month with family celebrations, including a birthday and an anniversary, and with my children’s activities. Today is no different as my younger daughter’s basketball team has a game scheduled and her twin brother has a planned activity as well. With everything going by so fast, it’s nice sometimes to take a few minutes and relax. For me, one of my favorite ways to relax is to curl up with a good book.

My family living room has two oversized chairs that are just the right size for curling up with a good book. There’s something cozy about a fire and my Basset hound and a book that spells out a relaxing evening.

For the hero in my debut novel, The Sheriff’s Second Chance, he’s so busy working he’s forgotten about taking time to relax and enjoy what’s around him. Mike Harrison is a police officer, a single father, and the owner of a run-down Thunderbird. He’s at the point where things in his life are breaking and he’s unsure of whether broken things can be fixed. Enter Georgie Bennett, his best friend growing up, a reminder second chances are waiting. Together the two of them become reacquainted with their hometown with its romantic gazebo and with loved ones. Romance for them comes when they renovate the Thunderbird and ask themselves whether friendship rusts through or whether it’s waiting for restoration. Both of them have to find what home means to them so they can grasp a second chance at happiness.

Now, I’m working on the sequel, which will feature Lucie Decker. While The Sheriff’s Second Chance takes place in autumn, Lucie’s book takes place at the beginning of spring with new life burgeoning all around Hollydale.

Both stories take place in Hollydale and involve second chances and new beginnings. In this first month of the year, a time full of new beginnings and resolutions, I hope you find some time to relax and enjoy this beautiful time of year.

What about you? What book are you curling up with this weekend?

The sun’s rays crept over the horizon, the promise of a warm day dampening the chill permeating the September air. Mike parked his squad car near a rusted Ford Taurus and a newer model red Toyota Prius. Using caution, he emerged with his hand on his utility belt and scanned the area. Not a soul greeted him. The hairs on the back of his neck bristled. From the corner of the long brick building, a colossal brown shaggy mutt bounded over. A couple of feet behind, a woman held on to a bright blue leash for dear life.
Mike’s gaze met the woman’s too-familiar green eyes. His heart rate accelerated.
Georgie Bennett was back in town.
