AND IT CAME TO PASS...

Patricia Bradley

I don't know about you, but this is week seven for me to shelter-in. I've been blessed to not know anyone who has COVID-19, and there've only been seven cases diagnosed in my county. But I'm not ready to go back to normal...

There have been silver linings in the past seven weeks. I've learned how to draw alphabet animals...meet Larry:

He's supposed to be a dinosaur, but he looks more like a hippo. The thing is, I had no idea I could draw anything that even looked like a hippo. You can find directions for alphabet drawing on Pinterest, or just google alphabet drawings. It's a great way to relax, and I can see using the drawings in cards and notes to others.

Another thing I found on the internet was how to make masks. I've probably made thirty or more for friends and friends of friends. It only takes about twenty minutes from start to finish, so it's not a big investment of time. Below are a few I made last week.

There've been other silver linings to this virus. I'm seeing couples spend more time with each other and their kids. One husband even joked that he'd discovered the woman sitting on the couch with him was his wife--she stays so caught up in her work that she rarely took the time to just 'be' with him. This time has been good for them to reconnect.

While this has been a devasting thing to happen to our country, and I haven't been able to write one word on my next book, it's not all been bad.

What silver linings have you found during this time?

  1. Love your ‘hippo/dinosaur’ Patricia! I’ve never gone past the stick people stage but if this goes on too long, I might have to try. A Silver Lining for me has been a renewed appreciation for the simple, things. When we go for walks in our urban neighbourhood,I find I’m actually looking at the gardens and fronts of houses. Noticing things. More aware of small things...birds, insects etc. I guess this comes from being indoors too much. As for writing, lots of time but not much incentive for some reason. :) Stay well!

    1. I haven't been able to focus long enough to work on my book, Janice. And I'm also walking 2 miles every day. :-)

  2. Thanks for your post. I guess one silver lining overall is the cleaner air in so many places. I've found it interesting that my work days hasn't changed, since I've worked from home most of my adult life, and I've lived alone a long time as well. I've been glad lots of my friends want to schedule phone calls, so I haven't felt out of touch. Had some zoom meetings, too, which I actually like. I've also started a heavy duty cleaning of my townhouse that will take a long time, a little here, a little there. I started with books and I've already stacked up a bunch to donate when the library opens and discovered a few I forgot I had!

  3. I haven't been able to write either, but I've cut down watching the news to 1/2 hour per day.

    1. I don't even watch TV that much, Shirley. I have enough drama going on in the nonprofit I helped start. lol

  4. Larry is adorable, and so are the prints on those masks! I was scheduled to be in Arizona for most of April and May, but we stayed in Alaska instead. The upside to that is I have started a bunch of seedlings to plant in the garden in a few weeks. Their are only a few patches of snow left, the buds are swelling on the trees, and red knobs are popping up on the rhubarb so summer is on the way.

  5. I'm doing some writing, thanks to sprinting--the only way my attention stays where it's put. Still sewing masks, though, and now scrub caps. I love your drawing!
