Christmas and a New Book

From Linda Warren

I’m happy to be here today to share my new Heartwarming book, A Christmas Proposal, and some thoughts. We are right in the middle of the holiday season. Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmas is blinking at us like a big green light. But like Thanksgiving it will also be a quiet affair. The family thought it would be best not to have the big gathering like we always do. There have been so many Covid-19 cases here in College Station and everyone is trying to stay safe. That’s really sad, but we’re doing what we have to during this terrible time.

A Christmas Proposal is out now and it’s a book about forgiveness. Becky and Bo lived across the street from each other and fell love in the high school. They planned to get married, but when Bo’s dad comes back to the small town of Horseshoe, Texas Bo runs because he can’t forgive his father for cheating on his mother. Before Bo leaves for the Army, Becky tells him if he goes, she won’t wait for him. And she doesn’t. She marries someone else and has a little girl. Now Bo is back and so is Becky. Sparks fly as she refuses to forgive him.

I’ve been asked many times where do I get ideas for books. That’s hard to explain because they come from everywhere. I was in the hospital about two years ago and I was talking to a lady and she was telling me about her daughter who had adopted two little girls who had developmental delays. They were about three and four and had been neglected. (So sad) The younger girl could speak but she would pause after every word. Once she was in a loving environment she quickly learned to speak correctly. I thought that would make a great book. And just like that A Christmas Proposal was born in my head.

Luci is Becky’s three-year-old daughter. Bo has never been around children and becomes captivated with the little girl who has some developmental delays with her speech. She says a word and then stops before she says another one. She asks Bo to be her friend because she doesn’t have any. Kids make fun of her. Bo becomes her very best friend and the little girl works her magic teaching the two adults that I’m sorry is just two words that could change their lives.

I hope you embrace the holidays with love and happiness and enjoy those around you. Stay healthy and safe.

My husband and I are staying home this Christmas—just the two of us. That’s never happened. I guess we’ll break out the wine and enjoy ourselves. How are you spending Christmas?

  1. Congratulations on this release, Linda! Books about forgiveness and the healing power of love are especially meaningful at this time of year, and most of all, this year. My husband and I are also spending a solitary Christmas and treating ourselves (as compensation!) to a nice steak rather than turkey. :) Happy Holidays!

  2. Your new book sounds wonderful--such timely topics. Not being attached to any particular traditions comes in handy when holidays change so much in a single year. Seems like zoom and other facetime methods will be the theme of 2020 holidays. It's made me think a lot about holidays during WWII, and the stories I heard as a child about that time--a long distance phone call was a huge deal! Makes me grateful for all the ways I can stay in touch with the people I love.

    1. Virginia, I'm old enough to remember when a long distance phone call was a big deal. Today there are so many ways to stay in touch and something new comes out every year. I'm exhausted from trying to learn everything. I'd rather just write. Merry Christmas!

  3. It's going to be just my daughter and I this Christmas. The house is decorated. The table is even set (I did a napkin folding demonstration on zoom and set the table, so why unset it when I'll need it up again soon). The shopping is done, still have to cook the food. I'm almost ready. Cards and wrapping gifts still to be done.

    1. That's wonderful, Shirley. You sound very organized. I wish I was like that. My back bedroom looks like a hurricane hit it. Wrapping paper everywhere, some gifts wrapped and some not. I have to get gifts in the mail today. Clock is ticking. Merry Christmas to you and your daughter!

  5. Congratulations on your holiday release, it sounds like a wonderful story. I'm looking forward to reading it (once I'm done with edits and getting a proposal out). It's just going to be us and the animals this year, but Christmas will always be precious and meaningful to me. Blessings on you and everyone.
