Making the Most of the Unexpected by Pamela Tracy

I'm a big believer in the W.  Yup, that's right, or maybe I should say "Wright"

As a writer, the W means (from the top and following the shape)
- First meeting - somewhat good
- Who is this guy!  Why did I have to meet him?  He's ruining my life!
- All better now.
- What!!!! This is awful.  I was wrong to forgive him.  My life will never NEVER recover.
- Let's snog.

LOL, life is like that too.

For example, my recent vacation
- Plan event with family, lots of excursions.
- No one likes my dates.  We will go with their dates.  This means my family, traveling the farthest, will spend two extra days.
- How cool, we've rented a cabin on VRBO and will have lots of fun during those extra days.
- Drought in Colorado, went non-whitewater rocking instead of whitewater rafting.  Oh, it started raining while we were non-whitewater rocking.  That night there was a flash flood, so the train excursion was cancelled because of a mudslide.  LOL, get the picture
- Time spent with family.  Nothing better.

What?

You want to know if I take all my events from life and plot them like a book?

Er, yes, mostly.

Don't you?

I'm the one in the yellow hat.

    1. So, I responded to this comments on Beth's and now I'm responding to Beth's on Liz's. hehehehe. I really wanted to ride the train. We stayed an extra day just to do that, but still mudslided in.

  2. Best. Vacation. Ever. Seriously, it looks like fun, even if you didn't get to ride the train.

    1. Thanks! Usually yellow is not my color, so it must be the combination of yellow and wet.

  3. I’m in awe of your plan to go white-water rafting and especially the way you bounced back from the set-backs! It’s all in the attitude, isn’t it? Which yellow hat did you say was yours?

    1. I'm sitting right in front of my 13 year old. I love white water rafting we've gone three summers in a row. Always different places.

    2. White water: Have you done the Colorado through Grand Canyon, yet?

    3. That is supposed to be my 13 year old's 16th birthday present. Of course, he's supposed to help me lose 50 pounds between now and then. Hmmmm.

  4. Wow! I never thought of life as a W, but it totally is. I'm so jealous you got to hit the river in Colorado, even if it wasn't total white water rafting. When I was there, I couldn't convince anyone in my family to do it. :( I can't wait to read your Valentine book!

  5. Great analogy! Never thought of it that way and I'll never look at a W the same way. lol

Because you're my best friend :)

  9. Again, I'm late to the party...I loved this post. This sounds like all my family vacations. And truly, W will never be the same to me. I was so happy to see you in Denver. Glad you washed off the mud. Or was that after? Have a happy weekend!

  10. I love that your family enjoyed time together despite all that went wrong! I bet this is a vacation that you'll laugh about next time you see one another.

  11. Yes, Life is a W. Very Forrest Gumpish. Even the letter itself is a series of ups and downs. I've never been whitewater rafting, but I can see myself doing it. Especially if I get to wear a yellow hat. Thanks for the zany blog today, Pamela!

    1. So, where in your neck of the woods can I white water raft?

  12. Somehow it all worked out for you and your family--fun post. I've been lost on road trips a zillion times, but somehow, I find treasures in places I didn't intend to be. I've been lost in plots, too, and every time, I hold out hope I'll find the gem!

    1. Virginia, I agree with you about treasures. Two of my favorite trips, we got lost, and found places we'd never have visited, but now I wish I could visit again.

  13. I have long loved your W workshop with regards to writing. Now I see how it applies to life, too. So interesting. My family used to white water raft almost every summer on the Deschutes River in Oregon. Loads of fun unless you fall out, which I did once. Good thing I was a good swimmer, too.

    1. Every time the guide mentions falling out, I almost change my mind about going. I wish they'd stop saying that. LOL

  14. Pam, thank you for making me smile. Like your recent trip, it seems like all my best vacations have a bit of the, um, unexpected. White water rafting is so much fun! A few years back, we had to cancel a raft trip on the Bow River in Canada because of flooding. I really hope you get to do that Grand Canyon trip.
