I thought long and hard about how to frame my introduction to the Heartwarming Author Blog, which was slightly complicated by the fact that I don’t have too many photos of me and my life. As the deadline fast approached I realized that I could actually tackle this post and feed myself and my roommate, all in one fell swoop!
Technically I started one day before Leah, which would make me the second newest addition to the Harlequin Heartwarming team. I don’t have cats (allergic) or a novel in the works (there’s a reason I’m on this side of editorial), but what I do have is a love for cooking.
There’s nothing that helps me to unwind after a long (but enjoyable) day at the office more than pulling groceries out of the fridge and settling in to just-under-an-hour of chopping, measuring, boiling, stir-frying, and more! Putting a meal together never feels like work to me, and being able to enjoy the fruits of my labour is an obvious plus. (Side note: I never worked at Starbucks, the apron was given to me.)
These photos are of me making last night’s dinner, kimchi-jjigae (kimchi stew) which I made with homemade kimchi alongside some stir-fried bok choy and carrots. And rice, of course, you can’t forget rice. I’m not Korean, but I have found that Korean dishes are some of the easiest and most rewarding to make (if you can find the ingredients, of course!).
My love for cooking can be traced back to my dad, who was always (and continues to be) the best chef in the house. He built up his own experience learning from his mom, working at his uncle’s restaurant, and even a short stint at McDonald’s during his university days! My goal is to be half the cook that he is, but I know I still have quite a ways to go.
It’s been great reading through the posts here and seeing that I’m not the only one with a love for (both eating and making) food. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all better in the coming months. Please let me know if you have any favourite (vegetarian) recipes; I’d be excited to try them out!
