Recently, Toronto weather has taken a mean and nasty turn…
I’ve
had a chance to catch up on a couple of Oscar nominees I’d missed, including
Jojo Rabbit. No wonder the two kids—one,
the main character, the other, a secondary character albeit an unforgettable
one—have gotten a lot of attention.
Performances
were great. They had empathy, humor,
sadness, drama, were wrapped in a clever script and convincingly filmed. Talk about a couple of characters I would
have been happy to go anywhere with. That’s something that draws me into a story and holds my attention, and
shows the strength of the storyteller whether it’s happening on the screen or
the page.
Next
up! The new reboot of Emma featuring Anya
Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy, and comic Miranda Hart. Can’t wait. Anytime a movie turns
up with petticoats and a horse-drawn carriage, I’m in! Except if the carriage is being driven by a
werewolf cloaked as a masked demon, of course.
Happy
movie time!

No wonder we get along so well, LOL. Nope. No horror movies for me. I have JOJO on my list once it hits my streaming service. I've been on the fence about Emma (I loved the Jonny Lee Miller version from a while back, not so much the Gwenyth one). I was all ready to go see the new Bond in April, but they've moved the release to November! Guess it'll have to be Mulan instead. Thanks for the reminder the movie theaters are out there, . And what great escapes they are.
ReplyDeleteMy mother took me to movies when I was a toddler....that was the only way she got her movie fix way back then. Despite streaming and DVDs etc., I still go to the cinema. Total immersion in the story, in the dark where I can tear up in private if I need to, with a bag of popcorn of course! Eager to see the Emma re-boot.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I made it to the theaters, but I'll have to make it sometime soon. JoJo Rabbit sounds good. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNo horror for me, either, but that's because I'm easily scared! LOL! I don't get out to the movies much anymore. (A STAR IS BORN is still on my list of movies to watch someday.) I'm excited to see the new MULAN movie.
ReplyDeleteI never tire of the Austen movies. I watch all the versions over and over. I'm looking forward to Emma, too. We'll have to compare notes! Hope spring comes your way soon.
